paperwork for marriage in Ukraine
« on: April 03, 2008, 06:06:55 PM »
Hello,

Several questions about paper needed for marriage application in Ukraine:

- Certificate of police : what is the limit for paper validity ? 3 months old, 6 months old ?
- Proof I am not married : I guess this is a declaration of honor ?

Does the translation in Ukrainian must be done by one official ? can be done by an independent translator ?

Thanks...

Proof that you are not married will come from your provincial dept of vital stats. If you have never married before and lived in other provinces then you may have to contact them also. I have also heard that whatever your provincial dept says, it still has to be given the okay by Ottawa. I sent you a pm with a link to a Canadian forum that has several men who have gone through this process.

I did this myself so this is one I can comment on and know for fact.
I brought tons of paperwork with me when I went to Ukraine. Not one pieace of paper you can bring they will accept. Ukraine will not accept any paperwork issued outside of the country.
You will have to make trip to Embassy Consulates office. If USA they only do marriage paperwork from 9 to 12 am on Fridays.
Cost is 30 dollars.
Once you get the paper there you have to go to other side of town to an official Ukraine office to have it certified. You pay fee there (do not remember amont) and have to come back after 4pm to pick it up. Consulate will give you address to where you need to go for certification. Now you want to get paperwork from embassy as early as possible because after 12 noon the Ukraine building will no longer accept other papers to certify for the day. The building is close to the Blue church with gold top in center of Kiev.
This paper is all you need. They will not accept anything else. Running around your town to get records is useless. I did this myself and nothing wil be accepted. Just understand you will have to spend day in Kiev to visit embassy and Ukraine legal building.
Now since you are from Canada you may want to ask if your embassy requires any paperwork to issue you paperwork in Ukraine to get married. The USA embassy did not. It was basically a simple form to fill out. Each section had answers to be written in English and Russian which counted as being translated. USA embassy just took our word for what we said. We have to swear in then the paper was signed by consulate.
Wedding palace would not take any paperwork I brought with me and had me do this. The paperwork from embassy once certified was all I needed to get married in Ukraine. The paper last for 6 months. After 6 months would need to redo. However we chose other route for marriage. But I went through this October 19th of last year.

I guess I will have to ask it from France too... (I am french, living since now 10 years here).  For the forum, thanks but :Your membership is awaiting approval by the group owner, so I can not ask yet all my questions :)
