Walking from the Hotel Rossia to Old Arbat one day this past spring I came upon a familiar site, President Fox.

Ok, here is a more familiar, traditional, Moscow photo.

Jack,

A little history lesson.  President Fox was not the first Mexican in Moscow.

Diego Rivera.  I venture to guess most members know nothing about Mexico's long history with Russia?

Do check him out.  Maybe there is much more to the "international" scene besides dating or passe presidents.

Cheers,

Jon

Elen,

Be careful crossing the streets.  If you need help, I will send American Boy Scouts to assist.  They don't live long during electrical storms, so please just don't let them outside when it rains.

I see Russia has copied a bad American habit. The infamous traffic jam. With one of the best subway systems in the world, why would any Muscovite want to have the headache of sitting in traffic?

I have not idea:? When we have a need to cross Moscow from one side to another we drop our car near next metro station and go on metro. In rush time it can save 1,5-2 hours

Look once again at the traffic. Apart from the lost Taxi or delivery van many are SUV or new German cars owned by people who want to flash them, even if this brings them in a traffic jam.;) Not something exclusive for Moscow, I noticed the same long time ago in Munich where they have an equally good metro system.
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

A question that perhaps Elen can answer.  How many cars in the center of Moscow are owned by people who actually live in the center of Moscow?

The reason behind the question is that in Manhattan (NYC), other than the taxis, limos, buses, and delivery/utility vehicles, most of the remaining passenger cars typically belong to people who don't live in the city.

Actually there are little ( not too much :?) people who live in the centre at all. ( or it's people who live in old "kommunalka"s and who hardly have too many cars) Most cars in the centre belongs to those who work here.

But traffic congestion in the cebntre is not such big pronlem like we have at the entrance to Moscow, where roads cross Moscow circular road:? Here is a nightmare

Please expain about these little people?  Are they midgets of special Russian fairies?  Maybe some Irishmen who come to live in Moscow?

It's not polite to laugh at someone's use of a second language -- especially when she was grammatically correct, just utilizing a variation that's less commonly used.  My wife uses these language constructs fairly often.  I certainly would not be happy to hear you insult her efforts as well.  Doesn't demonstrate you inner beauty, or perhaps it does.

I understand what Elen is describing.  Manhattan is much the same way, where the cost of parking your car (even in an outdoor lot) cost more than many Americans pay for their home mortgage.  Living in Manhattan, you have either the very rich (uptown) or the poor working class (typically taking care of the very rich).  The "middle class" are found further out from the center.

As you travel to the other NYC boroughs (counties), traffic gets much heavier (As a former NY native, I have spent a sizable amount of time parked on the LIE, GCP, BQE, and several other NY highways!).

ConnerVt,

No...you're missing the point.  Elen and I have a certain understanding.  I try to describe the inner-beauty of men and she does the real work...

Elen,

No one is making fun of your English.  It's what make you unique and special.  Well that and your great sense of humor...

corncrowe, of course you're making fun of her English. It is horrible from a structural point of view. I am amazed whenever I come across a sentence of hers that is grammatical, but that's because she has other work to do (2 jobs, right?). Comments about Boy Scouts will be lost, which you already suspect.

I was struck by no lines on the roads in the photo. The cars are staggered all over the place. I would not want to drive there, or even be a pedestrian!

Well I have to agree with Photoguy.   Since her English is so bad she probably did not understand your post so it might be helpful if you want to repost in structurly perfect Russian.   Just kidding.   You can probably do that anyway, right?

I don't know if you have ever been on the highways of Russia and Ukraine but the lines don't make any difference.   They drive like a bat outa heck with or without lines.   It is a wonder anyone lives to 40 there.
