As VERY surprising comment  considering that's EXACTLY what SteveJ had told us,  I was referring to...and the posting of mine you chose to jump in on..  :cluebat:

YEAH right, so if you really DID read my "boring" post about how I met my wife, this would ( AGAIN) demonstrate an inability to absorb what is before your eyes .. :(

  Is this how you duck ("gracefully") from a discussion, when you know everytime you type something you just dig a deeper hole...  ?!

As I've said several times here on this board - I've made mistakes,  revised preconceptions .. I'm sure you missed that bit - how convenient ;)

A little OTT on the generalisations,  don't you think? ;)

I am sorry but your post put me to sleep.  Did you say anything worth reading?

The only person I saw digging themselves into a hole is you and your ego matey.

Pretty much. Oddly (or surprisingly) enough, the woman I did marry is the woman that I communicated the least before meeting her. We had chatted online for 15 minutes or so (enough to get her phone number) and we sent a couple dozen SMS over two days as I was on the train. So, when we met, it was just a date with no expectations. She was not waiting for a foreigner as she had not been looking for one, but she was not cutting any bridges either. She waited a while to see how things would work out. If they hadn't, she would simply  have continued dating other men.

That is what I would call normal behavior Misha.  I would never expect a woman nor man to put all their eggs in one basket until they were sure.

A logical conclusion to this should be few bf/gf during marriage just in case.    :D

Well, I am sure a lot of women do look around and think: "tak, tak, tak, what kind of man could I find if ever things did not work out with my husband."  ;) They may not have a bf but they will evaluate what they could find and whom they could attract (same for many men btw).

It is a great conclusion prior to marriage.  I don't think anyone here said anything about  dating once a commitment has been made.  We are talking about prior to that commitment.  You are more than welcome to continue to taking my comments out of context.

If the woman has five female friends, why is the man not even allowed one ?  :P (you can reverse male and female whenever needed).

Why?   What changes with the stamp in passport?   Your level of trust in people?

I am sorry but I have no idea what you are even talking about.  We have been talking about dating, not cheating in a marriage.  Marriage changes everything and it has nothing to do with a passport stamp.  I would only marry a woman I trusted.

So what is your point or are you just typing for exercise?

When I made the egg statement it was in regards to dating.  Marriage and commitment is a different issue.

Of course. However, every marriage has its rocky moments. I have a Russian friend who is going through her midlife crisis at the moment after twelve years of marriage. I am sure that the thought has gone through her head.

Yes, but you haven't the manners to read it, properly  ;)

I see that while I've been away you moved on to quoting other contributors out of context, too...

Are you having some sort of crisis today, Thomas?  :rolleyes2:

I think you need to work on your manners matey.  I have had a few pms that stated how rude you are and have seen how you responded to others.  You blast people for doing something different even when it worked for them.  Get over yourself.

I still haven't seen anything you have written worth reading.

I can only imagine the size of your bed to fit you, your wife and ego.

 :ohbrother:

No crisis, just tired of your ego driven posts.

Thomas

P.S.  Life is great for me.  Nice weather, nice beaches, immigration visa in the mail and a beautiful, intelligent woman at my side.  Life doesn't get any better.

Having just dropped back in, and not being a part of the previous string of exchanges, I claim to have a little objectivity here.

IMHO: Mr. LivefromUkraine (is it Thomas?) forgot to take his Ritalin today. He misinterprets what people say, he is rude, and uncivil in his art of discourse. It is that Dostoyevski (I never spell that right?) man in "Notes from Underground" where alone, in his basement apartment, with his laptop, he becomes Thor, God of Thunder striking out at all the "blind" people around him. Of course, the one he doesn't see, and has no insight into, is himself.

My, my Tommy, interesting that you feel the need to tell us that you have "support" - are we adding sort sort of inferiority complex to the list of your peccadillos?

covered four times now, and what was that you were saying about "boring" ;)

As we don't disagree on the Crimea's undoubted beauty, and I'm not disputing your your wife's assets, WHY are you wasting the opportunuity to spend time with those wonderful things by compounding your patent inability to respond ( other than "boring" ) ?

We can say "you won", if you like... feel better, now ?

What are you talking about now???  Put down the comic books.  I am not the only one that thinks the same way about moby.  I am sure they are in the basement as well pretending to be comic book heroes or whatever.

Calling me Tommy is sinking since my name is Thomas.  Maybe you should develop some manners yourself.

I have been living with my wife for a year and a half.  We don't feel the need to spend every waking moment with each other.  I am a night person but I thank you for your concern over my sleep.  Do you  order your wife around as well?

... She convinced me otherwise, particularly with an incredibly bold step.

Gator, if its' not too personal, what was this bold step?

and so you should!!  :-[
.. but I wonder what Tanya made of the wonderful week and the silence that followed...

Did you tell her the truth after?!

Does your wife know the whole story ?!

It was difficult to break things off with Tatiana. It's one of the reasons I had decided my "no sex" rule, at least on this first visit. I spent about 2-3 weeks significantly "slowing down" with Tatiana, and she could tell obviously that something big had changed since my departure. I did not just drop her into silence. But I did not tell the whole truth. I said I had gotten re-involved with someone here (AW) unexpectedly, and things had just clicked. She was sad, and so was I. But the "no sex" part makes for a much more respectful break-off.

My wife knows that I met with another RW before her, but not that it was the week immediately preceding our meeting.

Blues Fairy, I don't think that this is about someone's younger self. The self stays the same the whole life, only the body ages. Sorry but I don't understand what a midlife crisis is...

This quotation is IMHO very true, steviej just speaks my heart out. It is in the woman, just for the sake of this discussion. No matter how old the man is, he would always look for the woman who would make his instincts sing. That age group is a secure provider of female beauty and attractiveness. In a patriarchal society like the FSU, this tendency is especially apparent.Steviej put it in a neat and concise wording.

Thank you Lily. I think there’s some truth in both observations. Your phrase, “That age group is a secure provider of female beauty and attractiveness.” Is true, and not negative to anyone, man or woman. But there’s also a component, I think, in what Blues Fairy said. I don’t think I was looking for my younger self (I’m a much better man now than I was at that time), but rather more desiring to go back to that “fork in the road” and try to get on the right path, instead of the wrong path. Both forces are at work.

… I only ever met one girl in person, 27 y/o, and she's the only one I ever need to meet.    :)  Almost 6 months and counting, and our 6th time together will be coming up soon.

Roykirk, congratulations! And thanks for sharing.

To tell you the truth marriages with very big age difference are quite rare in FSU as far as I know.   Well, except Asian republics where the whole marriage institution is totally different from the European part of USSR.
Based on the ladies that my wife knew (and knows), other couples we’ve met there, and friends of her younger sister, my completely unscientific study says that 30% - 50% of the ladies marry men more than 10 years older than they. So, it did seem to me to be more common than in USA. I’ve also noticed this in France and Italy, from being there extended periods of time on business. From an American's perspective, it is certainly much more common in Europe, in general. From what I’ve seen, they are certainly not “rare" in FSU. In the international marriage arena, I think the process itself tends to select out older men because, usually, though not always, a man must have a more established position and more money to seriously look for a wife in the FSU. I know I spent a lot of money and handled a lot of responsibilities that I just couldn’t have had or handled when I was 30.

I must confess that I find women in the 35-50 age bracket actually are better looking than those in the 20-25 age bracket.   That is IF the older women have kept their youthful shapes.
Since my marriage, and visiting FSU many times with my wife, meeting more of friends and family, I too have noticed how beautiful many of the FSU ladies are in your 35-50 range. The difference seems to be some have kept their weight down, and some haven’t. The ones that have kept their figures are beautiful, often fashionable, graceful and … well, just downright attractive !! I’ve even come to realize that my mother-in-law is quite a beautiful woman :)) (of course, this thought gets immediate suspression)
