This may be a bit off topic but it's still funny :)

A few months back my wife and I were shopping for patio furniture in a local hardware store. My wife saw a set she liked and set off to find a salesperson while I tested the lounge chair out ;) There was a guy standing near the register, probably a contracter, but (to me) he obviously wasn't a salesperson. My wife approached him and they talked briefly, I could see the guy pointing towards a register on the other side of the store. At the same time I could hear my wife's voice rising and I recognized the stance she assumes when she's chewing someone out. After a minute or two she suddenly stalked off, leaving the poor guy staring after her with a stunned, bewildered expression. I immediately figured that she mistook the poor guy for a salesman and wrongly assumed he was trying to pass the buck, but I had no time to intervene (and even if I had time, this was just too much fun to watch!). When she returned she was exhasperated, "no workers want to help anyone in American stores!"

I explained to her that the guy she'd just scolded was not a salesperson, but a fellow shopper. She turned borcht beet red and immediately went to apologize but the poor guy had already fled!

Thats funny! Must have been Home Depot

... My Wife often calls me her "Beautiful Boy"... and let me tell you I'm neither beautiful, nor a "boy".

Kuna, very funny - my wife does the same thing! Frequently I am "Where's my fussy little boy? ", or "Where's my busy little boy ..?"  :luv:

Animals are popular. Russians are people of the earth. I've been (and frequently am) a rooster, a doggie, a bear, once I think I was a squirrel

To my wife I've been a small bear and, most notably, a little booger (the word in Russian sounds like kra-ZOO-leechka). Evidently the corresponding word for a big booger is insulting but a small booger is endearing and cute. Go figure.

Regardless, these terms of endearment are very special and when you meet a girl who bestows one upon you it's a very good sign that she cares deeply for you :)

Interesting, considering that being called "a little snot" in English certainly isn't endearing.   :D

booger in Russian will sound as "ka-zyav-ka" - козявка and diminutive "ka-zya-vach-ka", but in Russian language the word "ka-zyav-ka" also means "boo-kash-ka" - little bug or diminutive "boo-ka-shech-ka" - very little bug.  :)

"kra-ZOO-leechka" or I guess it would be more correct "kra-SOO-leechka" is diminutive form "kra-soo-lya" that means "beauty"  :)

My Beautiful Wife:  "Kuna,  what panties are you wearing now?  I washed all clothes and I can't find any black panties"...

Me:  "Errrr....  darling, can we call my underwear boxers or underwear please.  I don't want anyone thinking I wear pretty panties."

Beautiful Wife:  "It's OK, I'm the only one who knows what your panties look like."

That is what it means as "kotenok" (котёнок) is a kitten in Russian and "KOTENOCHEK" would be the equivalent of saying "kitty" in English.

So, Misha, would it be correct (and appropriate) to use the term "kotenochka" with our wives???

That is just too adorable !! We are the lucky mensch, aren't we? How many Western men have a beautiful Russian girl kissing them all over their face, saying little things in Russian and we have no idea what it means :) I know I like how it feels, but I don't know what it means, and I don't care!  :couple:

My wife loves Gnutella and refers to it as "chocolate pasta." :)

I had to revive this thread, it's too funny to sink to the bottom of the lake!

For a wife it would be more correct to say "kee-san'-ka"  :) The Russian words "kotyonok" and "kotyonochek" (little kitty)  don't have a feminine gender, but can use as the endearing words not only for men but also for women, and of course for children of any gender.   :)

Absolutely, the only way she'll eat Gnutella is by spreading it on a fresh slice of bread. I tried it once and it was pretty good... For someone who insists sandwiches are unhealthy, my wife goes through about two loaves of Italian bread each week just for snacks of gnutella and marmalade  :P

When I was a kid, our standard afternoon snack (merenda) consisted simply in a buttered michetta with something on it, from a minimum of a sprinkle of sugar to a maximum of some jam (Nutella came too late for me :( :D). Practically no industrial snacks were available then, fortunately ;).

WARNING: Nutella is a well-known anti-depressant, but can be addictive 8):

We call  'michette'  'rosette' down here..

Just gobbled one up with mortadella and salami piccante.

I  do remember from my past pieces of buttered bread with sugar sprinkled on top..

Yummy then, but  turns my stomach today..

I know, in Rome as well, but they originated here in Milan and last December obtained their denominazione comunale (municipal certificate of typically-Milanese product) along with other local specialties like risotto giallo, panettone, osso buco and cassoeula.

Incidentally, I recently heard the reason why typical Tuscan bread is unsalted: in the XVIIth century they slapped a heavy tax on salt, and Florentine bakers stopped adding it to their dough altogether. After a while, people got used to the new flavour, so it was never added again (arterial hypertension was an unknown term at the time ;)).
