Age difference, agency vs. dating websites
« on: July 04, 2008, 11:50:53 AM »
As a newbie, one thing that has struck me browsing trough agency web sites versus more dating oriented web sites, during my search,is the difference in the age range that is acceptable for the women.

It seems to me that on the dating sites such as such as Bride.ru and freepersonals.ru. The women are looking for men not too far away from their own age. While on some agency websites there can be 22 year old girls looking for men up to the age of 50 and in general they seem to accept a bigger age difference on the agency websites.

I am just a bit curious about this discrepancy and what the reason for it is. Is it that the agencies try to encourage the girls to put a higher age of acceptable age than they really like in their profile? Or are they just more motivated to find someone and put a lesser level of importance on the age?

It is just something that has stood out and has puzzled me.

I noticed the same thing. The same woman put a 20-year-age difference as acceptable on Elena's site, while specified 10 years maximum on the free Russian-language site singles.ru. My guess is that the women are told (directly or indirectly) that there odds are better if they look for someone older (i.e. in their forties or older instead of their twenties and thirties).

agencies are for profit business.... they are not her to help people but they sell a service. If they restrict age too much, they will lose potential customers... you believe everything written by agencies ?

Off course I don´t believe it! I decided quite early on not to use the "agency route" at all. I feel confident enough with my dating skills and I have lived and worked in different parts of the world, so I can make my own way when travelling to meet that special one. Unfortunately I think it is a lot of truth in what you say! Which in itself is a kind of a scam and dishonesty leading to "older" men spending money on communication with girls that don´t really have a real interest in them!

But I also have a feeling that this deceitful practice may diminish as the economy of the FSU are getting stronger. Then it may develop into what it should be: Men and women seeking eachother on their own merits.

I've always assumed that even the ladies who really would accept a significantly older man would still prefer someone closer to their age, and that they're more likely to put their preferences on the dating sites and their "acceptable" limits on the agency sites.  (Of course, I'd bet agency pressure and the improving economy has something to do with it, too.)  Some people treat age limits as guidelines, some as dealbreakers. (as an aside, at 35 there weren't too many ladies with age ranges that excluded me!  :D )

I don't know what other women prefer for age difference but I am personally happy with  exactly what I have.

When I used an agency there was neither pressure nor suggestion to widen the age. Moreover, I suspect that they may even have filtered out some as unacceptable since I only heard from men with a narrow age difference.  Besides that in the agency I had seen photos of many married couples who met each other through the agency.  Approximately 85% of the couples did not seem to have more than 15 years difference.

I think nowadays the majority of an agency’s women consists of the women who don’t know English well enough to sign in designated sites independently. For that purpose they need assistance of agency. I think sometimes women who don’t speak English well try to make up for this deficiency by being more accepting of a larger age difference. They simply understand that that between two women of similar quality a man will rather choose the one whose English proficiency is better.
If you don't understand something, why the other person is the idiot?
