How to bring my sister in law here on some kind of Visa??
« on: July 09, 2008, 01:22:04 AM »
Hello RWD visa gurus!
My wife's younger sister (who is 25 yrs. old with university degree) would like to come live with us for a while, and have the opportunity to look for work or continuing education. I'm sure if things seem to be working out well for her, she would like to stay long term - like have a chance at a green card, even.

Obviously we would sponsor her (whatever that may entail) and provide a residence and financial backing.

Are there any approaches by visas to try to bring her here? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Steve

Google USCIS and check out there web site for this type of visa answers. It will not be easy to do.
Good luck

robertjay - thanks. Have you ever heard of anyone succeeding at bringing a family member over?

Stevie,

Are there are some professions for which Americans can not meet the expected demand, e. g. nursing?

What's wrong with K-1 visa.   Not ready to marry, huh?

It's going to be tough to do. Damn near impossible.

I wonder why I'm always reading about the Mexicans bringing their entire extended families to USA, and people from India that come here on work visas always seem to end up bringing their parents and grandparents. Why no Russians via the "extended family" thing, I wonder?

She's the one I mentioned in another thread. Her goals and attitudes are quite different than my Ulyana, who is a "traditional" Russian girl. Her sister, to my knowledge, hasn't ever said anything to anyone about wanting to find a good husband and get married. Of course, one never knows about family dynamics. It could be little sister rebelling against her "perfect" older sister and have nothing to do with evolving environment in Russia. My Ulyana and I both would love to have her marry a good American man and live here, even near to us. But so far, no interest.

How Do I Bring a Sibling to Live in the United States?

This information is for U.S. citizens who wish to bring a sibling to live permanently in the United States. Only U.S. citizens can bring their siblings to live permanently in the U.S. Lawful Permanent Residents can not.

So Ulyana can apply for the sibling visa after she gets her US citizenship.  And even then there is guarantees -

Depending on the relationship and the country involved, the wait for an available sibling visa number may be several years.
It's much easier with parents then with siblings...

Oooops, thanks. That's quite useful information. My Ulyana's citizenship application is in process now, but it could be 3 years or more. Still, that clarifies the question.

You are very welcome, steviej  :)    Some states are easier to get through naturalization process and some are not.   I was in Texas at that time - terrible waiting periods...   :(
