Well, by professional reasons, I look at the INS statistics  very often. #1 Foreign Brides country is not Russia, not even the entire ex-USSR.  It's Philippines.  I was actually surprised.

Interesting article. So true about Russian people resenting Michail Gorbachev only for the reason that Raisa appeared everywhere with him and she had a voice! (OMG, The President is under his wife's thumb!:shock:). I was very sad when she died few years ago from leukaemia. I think after she passed away he became half of a person he used to be. It is obvious that they loved each other so much that they were simply inseparable....

IMO, Russian women have always been more clever, stronger, prettier and more hard-working than Russian men, but they had to remain one step behind their husbands and hide in their shadows.  Even Chekhov said that something like 'even a bad female is much better than an average male'. Russia has always been a man's world and I am very happy to see that things are turning. Girl Power!

Actually, it's not strictly a Russian thing either. Women tend to be tougher than man in some aspects. But at least we can jab an iPod perhaps?
