For a couple of reasons, we almost never delete a profile.

We can, and will, based on your request, place your profile in 'Opted-Out' status. This accomplishes nearly the same thing as a deletion, and allows the retention of records, and the ability to re-start the profile in the future should you desire (and it happens often).

Yes ... as you can see from the opening post in this thread.

Just because someone has opted out doesn't mean that their posts are not worth reading.  There are several people who have taken this option during the time I've been a member, and there's a nugget or two in amongst the posts of pretty well all of them that I can remember.

However, most people who leave just disappear without trace.  There are at least three that I know of who have died (because other members, who knew them personally, have posted to that effect) but, in general, there is no way of knowing WHY someone is no longer posting.
