Are Russian Women Happy Abroad ?
« on: August 15, 2008, 12:40:39 AM »
I stumbled on a site the other day called, "Russianwomenabroad.com" Have any of you heard of it before?

They have discussion groups with RWs married in other countries. Some of it is in Russian and I can't read it! :) One of the threads was the question, "Are Russian Women Happy Abroad?" and page 2, "Would You Go Back to Russia If ... ?". I found the answers to be interesting, and overall also very encouraging compared to some of the "crash and burn" stories you here about. What do the ladies here think?

I think the question should rather be 'is the particular Russian woman happy abroad'. RW are different people, with different baggage, of different abilities and differend mindset.

I'm happy. :)
But it has little to do with "abroad".

It was nice to see that in general, the ladies were happy and loved their husbands. In general they said the reason they were "abroad" was because that's where their husband was.

Have any of you ladies ever heard of that site, or looked at it, or read anything on it? If yes, what are some of the things they are saying in Russian? Would it be interesting to share?

Didn't get the joke.
I'm in my new home now; besides I'm a generally happy person so where I am doesn't really matter. :)

Blues Fairy,  Maybe you never heard the old slang nickname for a woman as being a "broad"  I think it was more in use in the 40s, 50s and went away in the 1960s.  Before that they were "dames" but that was before my time but maybe not Stevie's   :)

steveJ, I think the woman who end up not being happy probably do not post on the internet.  I do know women who moved back to Kiev away from there husband or during K-1 phase.  Usually, it was the man controlled them to much, missed there parents / friends, age difference was to much, were bored.  Bored due to moving from Kiev to a smaller city of less than 2 million people with a different culture.  But the above is only based on Kiev.

You will find there are a lot of girls on Elenas models who have lived outside of there country with a guy in which the relationship failed.  Several of them at more than 5 years in this relationship.  But there back in the agency trying again.

RWA has been around for a long time.  From what I understand, the English language side is pretty tame compared to the Russian language forums.

The English side is just 2 guys,,Ham and Roy talking to each other.  Was a semi-useful place at one time.

Are Russian Women Happy Abroad?

This reminds me of a conversation with a custom homebuilder.  He said half of his customers thought everything was wonderful during the building process, knowing that a new custom home matched their dreams far better than an existing home.  They went from happy to ecstatic after moving in.

The other half of his customers were detail oriented and they tended to be critical.  They would arrive every day or so at the jobsite with a long list of questions and issues.  When talking with these customers after delivery, many of them seemed to dwell on a few imperfect decisions they made when designing and building the home rather than on the 1000 things that were ideal.  Nevertheless, almost all were satisfied.

My point - much depends upon the woman, particularly her personality and her expectations prior to moving abroad.

What do RW in Tampa have to say about their happiness?

My wife just joined a social group of RW numbering about 150 in the Tampa Bay area.  Friday night 65 of them met at a Greek restaurant and frolicked until after midnight.  Most RW were in the 30-40 age group.

She would call every couple of hours.  She and her friend talked to me, each time becoming livelier and happier.  They were in their element.  Her friend said, "It is like a trip to Russia."  The next day I asked if it made her homesick, and she answered that she is not moving back to Russia.

My wife spoke to many RW at the party and said that most seemed happy with their new life.

One final observation.

My wife complained that Russia is not doing well at the Olympics.  I replied that Russia is in third place in medal count.  She said, "No, there are many countries ahead of Russia.  We used to do much better."

She was judging everything based only on gold medals and discounting silver and bronze medals.

I have noticed a pattern in her and in a couple of other RW whom I dated seriously.  They strive for the best in everything and are not delighted with with second best.  This was particularly evident with the marks their children received at school.  If a kid made a "B", she wanted to know what was wrong.  She was taken aback by the athletic competitions her children entered this summer and the policy of "There are no losers."

So maybe being contented with America (or wherever abroad) is all that a man can expect rather that euphoria.  In contrast, her enthusiastic and cheerful 11-yo daughter is loving Florida and says she is never going to Russia, not even to visit.  She is constantly singing and smiling and laughing, even when alone.

YMMV.  And my wife has been here for just 5 months and she too will change, especially as her daughter works on her.

Even to see her grandparents and other relatives? It is not typical for a teenager though.

Gator, most countries only count gold medals.  China has already declared they won the Olympics several days ago.  1970 to 1992 Soviet Union dominated gold medals.  East Germany did well too.  Chinese focus on events that are more individual to get more golds where as USA tends to do well in team sports with few gold medals.

China also focuses more on judged events where judges can be bribed.  Some of the events are questionable.  I would like to win more golds, however what if we took our professional athletes that are not in the Olympics (baseball, football hockey players etc.) what would be the medal count then.  Remember the old CCCP?  That is China today.

Only one relative, a self-absorbed babushka, who did not seek a close relationship with her granddaughter.  Nope, America is her home now.  She woke up the first day loving the place.

Ben, If you would like to win more golds, you should start training now.  You only have 4 years until London.  BTW what is your sport?

China today is not the old CCCP.  The old CCCP is the New Russia.  China today is the same China we have seen for the past 60 years.  Olympic committee is naive to think that all nations have an equal interpretation of integrity and honor.

Sorry Ben, I really didn't mean to offend you personally.  I just want to point out that it's the athletes who compete, not nations, not fans.

I was paralleling that China is a very large country trying to show world supremicy by taking as many gold medals as possible.  That is what the Soviet Union tried to do 20-30 years ago.  That is what I was trying to say Ronnie.  The athletes are competing and celebrating, but these countries make the Olympics part of their political strategy.  Games are a clean competition...clean compared to war.

Nothing personal taken Ronnie, would love to argue with you over some beers at the BAP of your choice.

Hello Steveiej,
I decided to visit this forum and to share the secrets Russian women are talking about. :)
The first topic I opened was a complain about big sizes of clothes. Some jokes that to be dressed in America you need to become fatso  :D. And suggestions to buy the clothes by catalogs.

The next topic: sex offender-2 :D
" I met him at my work. Tried to hug me, whispered that Russian girls are the best in the world, touched my leg. Wrote a report on him. Lucky I calmed down fast, thought I would kill him right in the cabinet. It is very funny how my colleges at work are treating me as a psychological damaged :D, are very polite to me and care about me. And I am telling them - relax, everything is ok, this old jerk has the last chance to touch someone's leg.".

:)
When I read experiences I think I came from another planet or from future  :D

Hello mrs. Shadow,

I also wear the petite size clothes (1-2). Probably I'm more lucky I have never had any problems with choice in style and size in stores and I always have a great discount because of small size. I have my eye on some catalogs, and one of them is Spiegel, but I have my doubts, because before to buy I need to try it on to be absolutely sure that it fits excellently.

Nice advice from Poker  ;D

Mrs. Shadow as for the big sizes don't say anything I have a big build from weight lifting and playing football when I was alot younger, my shoulders are huge and I have to have a jacket too sizes larger than needed for my waist.

As for the sex offender wear stilettos to work and if he tries it again drive one of your feet into his instep and scream as loud as you can and sob afterwards.  A stiletto through his instep and he'll never come near you again and he'll probably be off work for a month or so.

Actually I do not say anything - I just translated two first topics I saw there.
As about sex offenders at work - I doubt Russian girls have problems with it - at least they can defend themselves very good and no need for psychologists or police. Right why girl was laughing in that topic that everyone treated her as a victim.  ;)

Hello, guys!
There are some things that make me upset about USA sometimes. For example, ridiculously high prices for beauty salons or expansive labor. I had to change my habits and to get accustomed to do some things myself... Does it make me unhappy person? not really. In terms of clothing size....my size is just perfect (4). I've never had a problem finding my size. However, I have difficulty to find good looking outfits occasionally..
