From Budapest

Both my girl and another board member here have encouraged me to fly into Budapest rather than Kiev - she lives in Uzhgorod - and theoretically this could save some time,hassle and certainly a few dollars. Buuut so far we have found one train daily from Budapest that arrives in Chop (about 25-30k away) @ 100 AM so I would be facing a night in the hotel and /or arriving way late at her home,effectively negating any benefit of Budapest vs. Kiev. Reckon there might be something resembling a private taxi from Budapest? I seem to recall hearing somewhere of Ukrainian taxi drivers maintaining Hungarian visas for just this reason.

I haven't done this, so take it for what it's worth.. but putting in the information, I find that there are plenty of trains into Kisvárda which looks to be say 20+k to the border which is just shy of Chop... I tried Zárhony which is the actual border on Hungarian side, but it wouldn't come up.
