sending SMS to Russia
« on: September 18, 2008, 01:02:19 AM »
Hi all,

The situation with the agency clears up. Seems the problem is that SMS do not go through. On my cellphone it indicates send out ok, but it seems they do not arrive nor I can receive any answers.

I would like to know if anyone else experienced this?

When using my cellphone here all works normal.

Regards
CaddyDaddy

Possible, but you might want to try other ways of sending SMS to check out if it is true.

Does you cell phone company offer "confirm receipt" reporting ?

Find out which company your lady is with and hopefully they'll have a web bsaed sms facility - you can then send sms from "within" her country and it tells you if it can't send the msg .. if it doesn't say it didn't work - the chances are good it did ;)

Concerning responses. Often the "messaging centre reply options " are set by the outgoing sms and can be incorrect for international .

Check under the sms settings for your cell phone to make sure neither your or her msgs are subject to such "restrictions"..

Good luck..

there are several variables....

either yours or her mobiles are not using GSM.  this can cause the exact problem you are expereincing.

as long as both parties have GSM it works fine.

how is your and her carriers?

I have this SMS problem all the time.  Sometimes they go through, and others they do not.  Sometimes I recieve and others I do not.  SMS is not reliable.  Though I have had better success with a web based sms service but I find it inconvenient..

Ahhh  :D a GSM problem?

I use a Qtek pocket pc and Swisscom. Never had any troubles receiving SMS or MMS.
The strange thing is, 10 days ago I send out my first SMS to her, 4 hours later I had an answer and was overlucky.
Another SMS - nothing
again - nothing
once again - nothing

What the hell $#!||

Ok, I'll wait, you never know. Until I thought now it is time to contact the agency again and ask some certain questions. To my astonishment I got to hear that the Lady was there too complaining that she doesn't receive anything from me any more. Today we made tests, I sent to her and the agency director SMS, here I always got a confirmation of delivery receipt about 2 secs later.

Let's see what happens tomorrow, all this is more exciting than the best detective story,
in several aspects  ;D

CDMA or GSM has nothing to do with this. SMS routing is done using route with different costs based on delay (queue) to destination. So if your provider is using a route with very long queue for sending , it can happen your sms will be lost ..

OK, tests were made. I sent out SMS simultaneous to the cellphones of the Lady and the agency director. For both I got receipts of delivery. The Lady got nothing but was informed same time by the director that I was trying. With the director I could exchange several SMS, no problem at all. So it seems my Lady's provider or cellphone settings give troubles. I wish it would have been contrary  :)

WoooooHooooo!  :D
I almost couldn't trust my eyes as I got a SMS from the Lady yesterday!
Looks like she had quite an effort to get this working, I suspect she either got a new cellphone or a new sim-card. In any case I will send her a small candy gift as "Thank You!".

As for email communication it looks different. She "doesn't like computers" and is "so slow in typing" and "the telephone station is so old" too. Ok, I guess I understand her, maybe she feels in front of a computer like me as I sat there for the first times.  ;D

Use ipipi.com. You use your computer to send but you receive sms on your phone. I sill have credits left from over 4 years ago. I don't have a need to send sms unless my wife has stayed in Russia while I come back home.
