How difficult is it for a woman to obtain a tourist visa for Canada and if she is granted one how long can she stay

It depends of many factors...from which country it is,etc

Can you give us more information ?

- Country of residence for this women ?
- Her age ?
- Does she has stable work and income ?
- Does she has already traveled abroad ? (other visas in her passport are assets)
- Does she own her apartment ?
- Does she has a son ?

We will try to get temporary visa in 10 days now for my wife. We will be married but we will not have started permanent visa procedure.  Marriage is in one week, Temporary visa for 2 months will be asked 3 days after.

You will have to let us know how that goes. My guess is that they will refuse as once she is in Canada on a temporary visa, she has the right to stay in the country as long as it takes to process the paperwork for permanent residence.

I was lucky in that my wife did get a temporary residence visa. I was, however, scolded by consular officials. I was told that the next time I should sponsor my girlfriend first (i.e. go through the normal channels for permanent residence). Of course, I did not tell them that she was my girlfriend, but they are not stupid either  ;)

We will see... we have good proofs showing that she will come back: Her son, Her apartment, she has other passport on her visa, we will have proof of wedding too and even contract of marriage signed by the pro consul of France . In my invitation letter, I write that I want my wife to know my children before living permanently with us and this is why I request this visit before all paperwork. I will be on site too during her visa request and I talked to the visa officer last august and he suggested himself for me to ask this visa.

My neighbor is married to an Ukrainian woman too (since 6 years, and was of an incredible help these last days), in his case, visa was granted after his wedding and refused before...

Marriage is 27 of september, in Kiev... I am starting to be a little nervous :)

I am certainly interested in seeing whether the Consulate will grant the visa. I hope they will.

The wedding is a week from today! I imagine that you must be getting a bit nervous :)

I would like to thank the advice given by fellow members. The woman is from Russia, which I have read from other posts is a difficult country to obtain a visa. She wants to come and visit me and I am concerned about the visa application.

As was mentioned, the Consulate will be looking for proof that she will return.

This is what they specify on the CIC site on what applicants need to apply for a temporary resident visa:

  • You must provide proof that you have enough money for your visit to Canada. The amount of money may vary, depending on the circumstances for your visit, how long you will stay and whether you will stay in a hotel, or with friends or relatives. You can get more information from the Canadian visa office in your country or region.
  • You may need to include other documents. These documents could be identification cards, proof of employment, a letter of invitation from relatives or friends in Canada, or a proposed itinerary. Check the website of the visa office responsible for the country or region where you live for more information.

Here is the tricky part. If she says that she is visiting a friend, they will ask who that friend is and how she knows him. As she is single and writes that she is visiting you, that will set off the alarm bells at the consulate, and will likely get her rejected.

If she says that she simply wants to visit Canada, they will certainly look very closely at how money she has: she will need enough to cover all her expenses (i.e. several thousand dollars). They will also expect that she has a good job. They will also look for some kind of motivation for her tor return.

Hope this helps.

Misha

Normally you would be the one who will go to visit her.
Check the scam card, and if she asks for money forget about her.

If she is a single female intending to visit a single male, most likely she won't get it, unless the times have changed and Canada now welcomes illegal immigrants from Eastern Europe, though I seriously doubt that.  I heard about some exceptions from a friend of a friend of a sister of someone's mother's coworker, but cannot confirm the story's authenticity.  If you do not know her personally and well, and she asks for money, run, as Shadow has already suggested.

Hi Misha:

What do you mean above when you say "sponsor my girlfriend".  I thought you could only sponsor wives, not girlfriends.  How does this work for girlfriends, is there a website with info on this?

Thanks,

Bruce

Not to speak for you Misha... but I thought Bruce might like an answer while he was still On-line...
Misha's Wife, Girlfriend at the time, was quite **EXTREMELY** fortunate to enter Canada on a Visitor Visa. They married after she arrived. He then applied, under the Family Class process, to Sponor her as his Spouse.
If you are lucky enough that your Girlfriend is approved to visit Canada on a Visitor or Student Visa, legally marry her while she is in Canada and apply to Sponsor her.... She does not have to leave the country while a decision on the Sponsorship is being made. If the Sponsorship is approved she stays and she automatically becomes a Permanent Resident.

I must have missed this post. The employee at the consulate was scolding me. You can sponsor a girlfriend (in theory IIRC) but only if she is considered a common-law spouse and you have lived together for at least a year. I don't know of anybody, however, who sponsored a common-law spouse though.
