Suggestion for a birthday gift
« on: October 03, 2008, 02:02:11 PM »
I've been writing with a 26 years old girl from Moscow and I really like her.
She has a birthday coming up soon and I want to send her a little surprise.
Do you have any suggestions?
I'm not very good at buying gifts  ;)

She has been to my home country before so I guess she allready have some kind of souvenir from my country.

I would send flowers...

It doesn't sound like you've met her so no matter how nice she seems it would be a bit silly to send anything expensive - and ANY woman who doesn't get a buzz from flowers would be a good woman to stay away from.   :o

I wasn't going to send her anything expensive, just a little gift to show her that I care :)
I was thinking about flowers but then I thought that a more original/personal gift would be better.
But at the moment my brain is completely blank... ;)

Flowers are a traditional birthday gift in the FSU, would be well received and would send the message that I believe you intend to send.

People are waiting for this for me, but I would get her some type of jewery, gold.... These women love to look good always.and I think you cant go wrong with a nice pair of earrings, GOLD.....  Scott gave you good advice, he knows what charms the ladies, but I think he will agree that gold will do the trick. Just depends on the message you want to send I think.

Why dint you fly to see her in person with flowers.  You miss her birthday in person someone else she is writing with may show up.  Even if you can only stay 1 day and spend 2 days flying.  Also, do not celebrate her birthday before the actual date.

Go for at least a week.  Make it worth it bro. Get a good relationship online, and it wont matter what you take her. She will want you for you.

Different strokes for different folks...    I can care less for cut flowers unless they have roots and can live longer than few days.

At this point - flowers is a good idea, but to make it a little more personal, if you know her mail address, write her a letter by hand, make it as romantic as you can, doesn't have to be long though; plus a really cool American Birthday Card again written by hand, not just signed, but with some special nice words from you to her.

Also, you can make a CD of 10-15 of your favorite songs - something personal, but if the relationship doesn't work for some reason, not a big deal... She has to have a CD player.... you can also create a CD with your family pictures and pictures of you, big resolution...- that's for a little later stage i suppose...

We're talking about someone he has never met.  I'm assuming his intent is to let her know he's thinking of her on her birthday and is thoughtful enough to recognize the day without being overly personal at this point or sending something that suggests the idea that he is in any way buying her favor or setting the precedent for expensive gifts.  In the US, one would do that with a nice card as Anastassia suggested or some flowers, not gold or something so personal as a CD of favorite songs or pictures.  It's just way too early for that.

Too early for gold and earrings, but not for a CD of songs! Believe me!

A selection of music often bespeaks of someone's personality (for good or for worse ;)), so the OP should ponder his 'message' carefully ;D.

Thanks for all the suggestions :)

I live in Norway so a fligth to Moscow wouldn't take more than 2-3 hours.
But we have just e-mailed for a couple of weeks so I think to show up on her door with flowers would maybe be a little creepy ;)
I'll probably get her some flowers and send her a card, but I'm not very good at writing romantic stuff.

Hint:  If you've only been emailing for a few weeks (and/or if it is so soon that turning up on her doorstep with flowers would be creepy) then a "romantic" message would IMHO, be inappropriate too.

A good RU will be happy getting to know you - the real you - in the early stages of "friendship".  A romantic card is likely to tell her the wrong things.

... but, Dude,  if you're 2-3 hours away and you don't get you butt on a plane within a month you're nuts. Almost any man in your position would use the lack of distance for what it is...  your greatest advantage.

Best of luck!

Kuna
