Divorce while waiting for interview

I've got a former girlfriend in St. Pete who has been married to an American for about a year. No visa interview date yet. She really wants out of the marriage, but the common wisdom amongst her friends is that she'll have a more difficult time with being approved for a K1 or K3 in the future if she divorces now. She really doesn't want to be in Green Card prison for 2 years. Anybody experienced this?

Nope, though from what she tells me it wouldn't be a surprise. She is a very nice lady who made a mistake. At least she isn't trying to scam anybody just to get here.

i'm one of those who believes the honesty is best policy thing when dealing with people but when dealing with a bureaucracy that usually doesn't work so i'd be cautious.

I'm one of those who believes that a woman/girl who makes a mistake like this should be avoided like the plague. At the minimum it reeks of immaturity, but could/maybe be a woman looking for the BBD.

Either way, I wouldn't touch her with the 10 foot pole.
