Going door to door on Christmas?

I had not heard of this before.  It seems my fiance and family were going door to door for New Years.  She said it is like Pumpkin Day (Halloween).  My boy must be quite the singer he is up to $50 UAH.

I then asked if she is sure this is a holiday and he is not going M.I.T (Mafia In Training)

So are they Christmas Caroling and people are giving him candy or money?
