There is a new movie just released this year to celebrate 200 years anniversary of Nikolai Gogol, Ukrainian born Russian writer - TARAS BULBA. It is based on Gogol's novel with the same name.  Despite controversy about the film being political propaganda, it is worth watching to understand more about history and the mystery of Russian/Ukrainian soul.

Moscow Does not Believe in Tears is an excellent movie.  I see it is on your list from the start of this thread.  It won an Academy Award in 1980.

I saw this movie before meeting L for the first time in St Petersburg.  There were two times during our meeting that reminded me 'exactly' of something I saw in this movie. 

Although it is an older movie and may not shed as much light on a younger woman's possible life experiences.

Yes, it is a very good movie indeed.   I've just watched again few days ago.   One thing still bothers me though - when Gosha says "I make all decisions here just because I'm a man"...   :evil: :D

I am going to bring a DVD of the rock-opera "Junona and Avos" (With Nikolay Karatchentsev) to the States  with me to share with my sweetheart . It is absolutely amazing! And the story of Russian-American love is so touching! All the songs from that opera  has been musical hits  for over than 20 years in Russia. I recommend it to everyone!

Shadows Disappear at Noon is a very good movie. I also would like to find with English subtitles for Robert.
