« on: January 16, 2009, 10:23:46 PM »
Hey guys I have decided to take a trip Russia. I fly from Toronto to Kiev and then onto Moscow. My RW will meet me in Moscow airport and I must admit that I am a little nervous. Are plan is to then take a train to Kazan. I will need plan B if she does not show up anyone know a reasonable priced place and interpreter in Moscow. I am only staying for 8 days as it is January, thats for the advice guys and wish me luck.

Canuck, by all means check the RWPedia (Wiki) section. I posted a few links there some time ago.

The Izmailovo Gamma-Delta appears to be one of the lower priced hotels, but I cannot say I've ever stayed there. I have tried the Soyuz and was pleased - it's somewhat close to SVO, but only 7-8 minutes by shuttle to the
Rechnoi Vokzal Metro - giving you access to the city.

Also check out the Ed Ryder link - he critiques hotels he's visited, although some writeups are dated.
Take along contact information for Moscow Rick - he rents apartments, and might be able to be of
last-minute help.

Best scenario - she shows up, and you two take the romantic trainride through snowfields.

The Izmailovo complex actually consists of 3 high rise buildings and is among the lower priced hotels. Stayed there 2 times a couple of years ago.I t includes a very decent breakfast buffet and is right on a metro station so it is very convenient to get to Kazanski railway station or Moscow center. Its an 18 hr train ride to Kazan but if you lady is with you, it should be quite cozy. Good luck!

Thanks guys you have been a big help and good support. I do not know the percentage of men going to Russia, but I imagine it is not that high. It is a little intimating going to a county where English is almost now exsistant. I have travelling some parts of Europe, but this trip is different. I hope things work out with my RW, but now at least I have plan B with Moscow Rick.

Toronto-Kiev-Moscow? That's an odd route to get to Moscow. Must be Aerosvit? You will be flying into the new SVO Terminal C. Interesting :)
Hotel costs in Moscow are nuts as you probably know.... here is a small mini (smart) hotel that is pretty decent. http://www.keburpalace.ru/home.php
Enjoy your Trip Canuck! :)

Canuck

Is this your first trip Canuck?  It seems so because a statement like the percentage of men going to Russia is "not that high" is a glaring sign of inexperience in this endeavor.  Lotsa and lotsa folk speak English in Russia.  On my last trip to Russia (December 2008/January 2009, I'll post a TR once I recover fully from the jetlag/time difference) there were three guys on the Delta flight with me, all from the USA, all going to see a woman, albeit in different cities.  On the return flight I spoke with two other guys who were coming back from spending time with a RW.  Personally I am well beyond 20 trips now to the FSU (I quit counting at 20), only 9 or 10 of which have been to countries other than Russia.  So I'd have to respectfully disagree with you, though I don't want to burst your bubble as it's probably tied to your hopes with your RW.  So I'll stop there.  Good luck and let us know how it works out...that's a long a$$ train ride though...I did that once.  'Never again...

And actually this raises a good question/point: anyone care to take a stab at the notion of whether or not more men go to Ukraine than to Russia simply because of the lack of a visa requirement in Ukraine?  Can it really be that straightforward?  I dunno, it just seems TOO simple to my mind somehow.  Hmmmmm...dunno.  I've heard from some men that "Ukraine is flooded with foreigners" due to this no-visa-required reason and that "Ukraine therefore gets far more men searching for women than Russia does" by others.  I couldn't tell you because I haven't been to Ukraine since September 2006.  My focus has been on Russia, so it's difficult for me take even a SWAG at this question.  I am considering returning to Ukraine in March however.  We'll see.

Anyone?

Best,

Jerry

ps-And Moscow Rick is a solid resource; I've used him in the past, 'does great work.  Can even line you up with a reputable agency if you need him to...

Not just the visa issue...

I visited both and simply liked Ukraine better.   In fact, I married a girl from Ukraine.

Now, with the saber rattling of Russia, and the demise of democracy there, I'm glad my wife is not from Russia.  I really don't know if Ukraine will make it or not, but I know democracy in Russia is dead.

Good luck on your trip, Canuck .

Cannuk, best of luck! Sure wish i was going with you.  You do need a plan "B" for sure. 8 Days will go by so fast. Dress extra warm, my last trip ro Moscow was also in January and it was - 17 on some days with freezing ice storms. I really do hope the woman you are meeting will be "the one"

Good luck!  Try to calm the nerves and you can always get to an internet cafe.  The forum is not going anywhere.

Canuck, I will suggest a back up plan that I think would be a great option just in case things don't go as planned.

If you get to Moscow and things go bust, call LTP in Tver, they should be able to send a car to Moscow for you, arrange a hotel on even short notice and have you meeting lots of good women while you are there.    I have no first hand experience with them so if my post is not a good suggestion someone else can comment.  The other option would be TverAngels, Richards agency.
