2005. About 50% prostitutes in Moscow are women from Russia.

http://www.kp.ru/daily/23608.5/46494/

Interesting quote from the article: По данным различных исследований, в Москве трудятся от 150 до 300 тысяч путан. So you have anywhere from 150,000 to 300,000 prostitutes in Moscow. Given Moscow City's population of roughly 9,000,000 and assuming that half of this population are women, this would mean that up to one out of every 15 women in Moscow would be a prostitute. This number seems a bit high to me, but I won't argue with the stats.

My, my, my, what a nice sophisticated lady you've met  Really pretty, smart and classy girls are self-sufficient enough not to bring down other women based on their nationality or whatever. Haters are just pathetic :D

2005 - Moscow population 10 407 000. http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%9D%D0%B0%D1%81%D0%B5%D0%BB%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%B8%D0%B5_%D0%9C%D0%BE%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%B2%D1%8B

You should also consider that the most % Moscow prostitutes don't have a Moscow propiska and usually they are illegals.

The 200+ websites I listed in 2007 (www.floriani.it/sitirussi/sitirussipro-eng.htm) account for about 40,000, mostly Moscow-based, many with profiles on more than one website. Recently I noticed a proliferation of Ukrainian websites, mostly Kiev-based.

My Muscovite wife says that the official population of Moscow is about 12,000,000, which ignores another unaccounted 8-12 million who either are residents but do not have the Moscow propiska (i. e., illegal immigrants) or commute in for short stays.  For example, when she had her apartment renovated, she moved out and four Uzbeki moved in for 6 weeks to do the work and stayed there every night.

Sandro, I would guess that only a small percentage of the prostitutes in Moscow would have a webpage.

Cannot say. The majority of those who have it are in the 18-25 y.o. range, so maybe it's confined mostly to the younger and more Internet-aware generation ;). Anyway, their numbers appear on the increase, and many have started listing their English proficiency as well.

Too short, should be at least knee-length ;).

I remember wondering years ago why street-walkers seemed to favour ankle-strap shoes. Then the answer occurred to me by analogy, watching Fandango and Irish dancers: if they have to make a run for it, those shoes will stay with them :D.

Bigotry knows no boundaries but this is probably deeper-rooted in elitism and anti-provincialism.  I think it exists to varying degrees around the world and is reflected in multiple cultures' stereotypes, idioms and jokes. The capital is usually more prosperous and people in the country are often the butt of jokes everywhere.

I have heard the same thing from educated, well-traveled FSU women and there is a certain snottiness exhibited, particularly from Muscovite gals, that THEY are the elite of the FSU.

As someone mentioned earlier, I suspect it has a lot to do with jealousy of the higher level of beauty of UW as well as class consciousness from the good ol' days.

An aside, I have heard questions from several language and business students as to why Washington, DC is not regarded as a great place to live and how NY ended up being our financial center.

I love ankle-strap shoes. Almost all my shoes are ankle-strapped. It is really very comfortable. Robert and I love to dance, so I also prefer my shoes to stay with me  ;D

Irish dancers in high heels  :rolleyes2:  :D I can not do this :o even shoeless :D

I think after to years in US I became more tolerant to the word "sexy".  :D First time this word just grated upon my ears. I remember you wrote in other thread about 'sexying' everything, please correct me if I have confused something. A month ago Robert and I went to BrandsMart USA to look for a new stove and a dishwasher. After I decided to look what pans they have. When a young American woman squealed near me "What a sexy pan!" I forgot why I was there  :D

Irish dancers in high heels
Both Spanish and Irish dancers wear low heels (2" or less) when doing their numbers, you cannot really tap-dance a fandango or a reel in high heels, you wouldn't hear much of a THUMP ;).

Can't recall that, offhand ::). I have some pans, but don't find them overly sexy :-\, kind of dull, actually ;D.

was talking to a woman from Krasnodar Russia the other night and we were talking about the site which is freepersonal.ru and she went on a rant about how all the women there from the Ukraine are prostuites and just want money and to relocate. It just blew me away to be honest! I can hardly believe that for one thing and another was her attitude towards Ukrainian women! IMHO it is just her spouting off for some reason but thought I'd ask anyway if this was normal?
Yes, some of us are nationalists so that`s just up to you with whom you want to be. But her accusations of ukranians look not fact-based so i would recommend to stay away. I`m of highest opinion of ukranian nation so it`s one more reason for me not to like russians - their superiority complex.

My Muscovite wife says that the official population of Moscow is about 12,000,000

Yes, Moscow has grown since the last time I checked the stats. The official population according to the Russian web sites I have consulted: Москва 10,382,754

which ignores another unaccounted 8-12 million who either are residents but do not have the Moscow propiska (i. e., illegal immigrants) or commute in for short stays.  For example, when she had her apartment renovated, she moved out and four Uzbeki moved in for 6 weeks to do the work and stayed there every night.

A lot people work in Moscow and live in the Moscow Oblast. However, the article Olga cited did not give us the statistics on the number of prostitutes who commute into the city ;) Maybe they are counted, maybe not. Nonetheless, even if it works out to 1 prostitute for every 20 or 25 women, it stills seems a bit high, but perhaps I am just underestimating the phenomenon.

Quote
Sandro, I would guess that only a small percentage of the prostitutes in Moscow would have a webpage.

I agree with you here. One of the most common "advertising" for prostitutes in Russia are hotels. When staying in a hotel, I would invariably get a number of calls several times per night  asking if I wanted the "company" of a lovely girl  :rolleyes2: It was annoying: just as I fell asleep, I would invariably get a call. I doubt they had a web site.

Pimps have agreement with hotels and some of them have websites. You can check Sandro's link.

I think only local departments of the Interior can give such statistic, but again it will be just approximate.

(из 100 тысяч московских проституток примерно 1/4 начала свою работу в несовершеннолетнем возрасте, 80% из них – приезжие).

I agree with you here. One of the most common "advertising" for prostitutes in Russia are hotels.
On the other hand, what I defined as the 'mid-to-low' range girls specify they only work at home and are not available for outcalls (they are also recognisable by amateurish photos usually displaying them at their quilted 'workstation' ;)).

An Internet profile gives them a wider exposure, with no hotel-staff intermediaries: depending on the site, they also publish their telephone numbers, so direct 'booking' is possible.

WOW !!! Did I open a can of worms :wallbash: To let everyone know I do not have contact with the person in question anymore. That was just one of the many things she said, and to me there were to many red flags so to speak. So the search continues!  :D Thanks to all who gave me information here! As always it was very helpful!! :)

I view this from a different perspective. "Women just do not like or trust other Women"  It is a competion thing, first your friend was probably upset you were talking with her and still surfing the "dating sites". regardless of what country thy are from, but of course if they are from a different country "How heck they are so much more vocal"

I agree with those before me "Run Forest Run"

to put a little perspective on this, my ex-wife did not even trust my sisters or my mother. It took a few years for her to even start to acknowledge them and begin talking with them. If I knew then what I knew now I would have "Run Forest Run"

I think in truth it is just plain ignorance and a lack of self confidence

Well, FSUW do have a tendency to be just a teensy weensy iddy biddy bit jealous sometimes.

And I agree about trusting hte friends. They trust them as far as they can see them. Unless of course, the friend told her something off the wall and ridiculous, then she'll defend the friend until death with a tenacity that is inexplicable.

Gotta love those FSUW.... I do... I'll admit it, and then sometimes, every once in a while, I truly question my own sanity.
