We got our NOA 2 this week
« on: February 14, 2009, 01:54:43 PM »
I am very excited, and a great Valentines present for the both of us. We got the approval Wednesday, so we are about 10 weeks to go.

Working on the ESL classes and talked to the school.  Reading a bunch of fun ways to learn for him.  I am pretty tired at this point.  It is all starting to get somewhere finally.  Now, I got suck in Philly for the weekend.  I lost one weekend of extreme cleaning the house.  For those keeping score, about 700 lbs worth of "old stuff" has been thrown away or donated.

All the rooms are almost clutter free, I am giving it all I got lol.  I know it is not going to be enough at the end, but I know that I worked hard at cleaning.

Well thought I would share also, NOA 1 was October 8th and through the VSC.  Which is the first time I can recall it being behind CSC.

Vaughn, something tells me you are the one person that understand my plight.  I appreciate it and let me know the date.  I got so many plates spinning, I am not booking as much travel already.

From CSC, my NOA-1 was Aug 21 and NOA-2 Feb 5 (after providing them with more evidence).  NVC sent out their letter to me on 2/13 and advised that the petition "will be forwarded within a week" to the US Embassy in Kyiv.  How long should it take between when NVC sends the package and Kyiv issues Packet 1 to my lady?  I heard that they are scheduling interviews about 30 days out once the fiancee replies with Packet acknowledgment.  I will fly out there, possibly for the interview, and we'll return to USA together, so I'm trying to estimate the timeline in preparation for securing plane tickets.

There is a good chance that your petition is on it's way now to Kiev. My NVC letter was dates 1/26, I waited five days and called NVC and learned that the petition was sent on 1/26. I sent a email to Embassy on 2/4 asking how long we should wait. On 2/8 I received a reply from my email saying that her Packet 3 was sent 2/6. We called 2/8 to set up a interview, we could of had 2/19 but 2/23 was better for us.

Do not wait for Packet 3, it may never come.....

You can find it here:
English: http://kiev.usembassy.gov/visa_K1K2_eng.html
Ukrainian: http://kiev.usembassy.gov/visa_K1K2_ukr.html

Now you have your KEV# she can make a appointment for medical. If she lives very far from Kiev, she may want to do medical the day before interview. My fiancee met a couple of ladies doing this when she had her medical. She also had time to pay for visa on this day.

It takes about 10 days to get police certificate.

Good Luck!!

Great info Dispozo, thanks!  I found this on the Kyiv Embassy site:

Step 2 - When Your Petition is Approved
When your petition is approved, USCIS will notify you and will send the approved petition to the Department of State's National Visa Center (NVC) in Portsmouth, NH, for further processing. NVC will send a courtesy notification letter to the petitioner advising him or her that the petition has been received and that it will be sent to Embassy Kyiv.

It takes approximately four to six weeks for the actual approved petition and its supporting documentation to reach the Embassy. We can only start processing your case, (that is, send out the information packet and schedule a visa appointment), once we receive the hard copy of the approved petition.

They use the term "hard copy", but maybe it's now done electronically, based on the quick turnaround times?  Lily lives in Kyiv, but she has only been there a few years, so she needs to go back to Lugansk to get the police and any other documents, and she'll get her immunizations done there too.

Paying the Embassy to schedule an interview?
« Reply #7 on: February 18, 2009, 10:53:07 AM »
In the KEV-1 info packet, it states the following:

SCHEDULE INTERVIEW: AFTER YOU HAVE OBTAINED ALL OF THE DOCUMENTS that apply to your case, contact the Call Center to schedule your visa appointment.

The call center hours of operation are Monday-Friday 8:00 to 18:00, Kyiv local time. The Ukraine call center telephone number is 044-207-7071. If calling from the United States on behalf of relatives in Ukraine, the telephone number is 1-888-889-3780.

The call center is providing visa information and scheduling appointments for a fee of the Hryvnya equivalent of $12 for eight minutes. To pay for this service, you must purchase a personal identification number (PIN). You may purchase a PIN in two ways:
•   You can purchase your PIN with a credit card by telephoning the call center.
•   You can purchase your PIN from a designated local bank branch of ProCredit Bank* or any branch of Raiffeisen Bank Aval (http://www.aval.ua/branches/).

Is this true, that I or she must pay $12 to schedule the interview?  I've never heard about this before.

They send your petition to Kiev. But they enter your case information into the embassy computers before your petition arrives. They will take a quick look at petition, maybe one last name check.

Yes you have to buy a pin. We bought two pins.

I would email them first. They are good about returning  emails.

Good luck
