Hi, I have recently been to the Ukraine to meet women. I have met one I am very interested of and would like to return in July if things work fine. I will talk about my trip a little later on.
I am wondering in the event that everything work without  :wallbash: and we get married.
What is the best way to proceed to get married and how long would it take for her to come to Canada.
I have heard that we could get married in Canada so it would take less time but I know how important it is for an Ukrainian woman to get married in her country.
I would appreciate your insight.

Welcome NSDT :)

How long will it take to get your Wife into Canada? I'll tell you after mine gets here! Seriously, we are marrying in Jamaica this April. We'll wait 2 months for the Jamaican Wedding Certificate to arrive in Canada after our Wedding. I'll then send it and all other required Documentation to Citizenship and Immigration Canada and then wait approval of me to Sponsor her as my Spouse. Most likely this process will take anywhere from 8 months to a year. We chose Jamaica for convenience and ease. If you marry in the Ukraine there'll be Translation and Notarization issues as well you'll have to be there for at least 2 weeks (residency) before you can get married. Marriage in Canuckstan? Getting her here will be the biggest obstacle. CIC doesn't had out Visitors Visas to single Ukrainian Woman very often.... maybe a 2% chance of it??

Everything depends of her travel history and links she has to Ukraine.
Last december, we were looking for someone to take a photo of us in Quebec and the first person we ask was a russian tourist...

She can get a travel visa if she has traveled before to Canada or USA, if she can prove she has strong link to Ukraine (children who will stay in Ukraine the time of her travel).
We are waiting now for the permanent residence visa for my wife, she was able to get two temporary visa and spent a total of two months here, her son was staying in Ukraine with his grand mother during this time (I must pay two chocolates per day the babushka...). We were married in Ukraine and we believe the total waiting time is between 6 months and one year.

How long does it take???  That's an easy question!!  Too @!#@@#@ long!!

Getting married in Canada would obviously depend on getting her some type of visa to come to Canada in the first place. From what I hear, this could be a challenge!

To get married in Ukraine you will need these documents:
1. information page of your passport translated to Ukrainian
2. "Statement in lieu of certificate of non-impediment to marriage". This can be obtained from the Canadian embassy in Kiev and is written in both english and ukrainian. You will have to take this document to the Foreign Ministry in Kiev to be legalized. It is also possible to have this done in Canada through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
3. If divorced, a Divorce Certificate, legalized by the Canadian goverment, legalized by the Ukrainian government and translated to Ukrainian.

There is a requirement that you need to be in the country for 30 days (or is it 40??) before the wedding. This can be worked around without too much trouble.

Our application for my wife's permanent resident visa has proceed quite well. I sent in the sponsorship and visa application to Mississauga by priority post on September 19. It was received there on September 22. Took less than a month for them to approve the sponsorship applicaition. The visa application was forward to the embassy in Kiev and they started processing on November 5.

We were notified earlier this week that it was time for my wife to go to the embassy to pick up the PR visa. I'll be in Ukraine for the first two weeks in April and bring my wife and daughter back to Canada with me. So that will be 7 months from the time we submitted the paperwork until arrival in Canada.

I am curious. How long had you known you wife and been married before submitting the paperwork? There is always the question of how long is long enough for CIC.

We had known each other about 16 months before applying for the visas.

And, in total, how much face-to-face time had you spend with your wife? I waited a year before submitting the paperwork even if we had seen each other daily just to be safe.

It adds up to about 4 months, spread over 5 trips to Ukraine.

Please do not say that you marry in Jamaica to avoid Zags requirements ...;)
You need to justify yourself because you will have a week in one beautiful place, with sun , sea and s.. ?
