Will the interviewer show interest in boys photo album
« on: March 27, 2009, 05:16:59 PM »
Well our Son had spring break this week.  He as excited as one can be, about going on a train.  He loves trains.  He is still pretty sure he does not need to wait for visa, that he can come by himself to America.

He made a photo album this week for his interview.  It has pictures of me and them together.  Then the pictures of our dog, cats, and truck.  Should I call embassy and ask them to please show interest in it?

I would hope that they are kind enough to play along with such a photo album.  He worked real hard all week on it, so I do not want his feelings hurt.

Just my opinion, but if this interview is important I wouldn't take even the tiniest, most remote risk of irking a consular officer.

Oh groov, that ship sailed a while ago by now.  They have had a very hard time over there keeping decent employees.  That is the the reason Ambassador Taylor was put in place.

I do not think I have made any enemies over there, but I doubt that my name will go unnoticed either.  Part of the reason, I asked the question.  I have done a lot for this country, I think that everyone there understands that.  I have not asked for any favor, and went through this like any other citizen.

For the record, I think he is doing a much better job.  I just feel the Ukraine needed much more than was given.  I also do not like the saber rattling back and forth with Russia.  I do not feel it is in either countries best interest.

In the end, I would hope such things as this album would go unsaid.  I do not see where they could have grounds to deny anything, but that is also why I got the best Lawyer on the case also.

Finances are just to hard hit at this point, and my fiance agreed it was not the best way to spend our money.

This post really cracked me up Diplomacy, though I am sure there is nothing humorous in it. Usually I can decipher and understand your most cryptic posts.. but this one... I don't know what in the world you are talking about.  Is there another thread that I missed which ties this all together?

The photo album sounds great, though.  ;D

Dave:

I really have been trying to not be so cryptic.  Maybe the post was not in good form.  I have been involved with a lot of social issues that the Ukraine is facing, I do not see where America has been the greatest catalyst for change in Ukraine.

We were unable to protect our corporate interests there, there is not a good sentiment towards America by many there, and IMO not enough being done for such a strategic country as Ukraine.

Now I am the first person to say that the Ukrainian Government is it's own worst enemy.

A lot of things are better there now, but it was a lot harder to do than it needed to be.  It is a very complex situation, one that I am not sure can really be solved.

It is easy for me to complain about some situations, I was in or know of.  It is really not my intent.  I do respect the Ambassador, it is the situation he was put in I do not.  I have never had a direct conversation with him, but I was treated very rudely and they were unresponsive in areas that they are charted to be responsible for IMO.

I am not even saying, that the results would be different.

I have many stories, that will never be heard by another human.  They serve little or no purpose and will not accomplish anything but trouble.

I believe all you got to do is look at "American" Rates in Ukraine.  That pretty much says it all.  When you got a few thousand Russian flags waving to our President, there is another issue.

Now mind you, I am more interested what is under rocks and goes bump in the night.  So I have seen and heard about the worst of the Ukraine.  I have also seen the best of the Ukraine.  It is the tale of two Cities.  Choose poorly and it will be the worst of times for a WM, if you are a good man and choose wisely.  It really is the best of times.

Your post hints at some offical interaction with the embassy but it's so vague that it makes it a little difficult to follow.

Anyway if your son is going with your fiancee for a k2 visa the question they seem to focus on is the mother child relationship. My wife's 6 y/o daughter went along because they did the medical exam and interview in the same trip and they ased her (the child) "who is this?" and again " are you sure this is your mom?".

They only asked my wife one question, that was "how did you meet?". She pulled out a copy of the newspaper ad with my picture in it and that was the end of it.

The customs guy in New York asked the same question when we arrived ("who is this?").

Yes, and no.  I did not have any official ties to the Embassy.  I was an envoy under the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_House_Office_of_Faith-Based_and_Community_Initiatives

The theory was that sometimes, being able to work civilian to civilian you can get a lot done.  The initiative was designed for domestic social work.  I took it and improved it for International Relations.

The theory being that I could use my domestic contacts in various Industries, to improve the situation in Ukraine.  There are a lot of Americans over there doing a lot more than I have done.

I just tried to help the organizations that I could, achieve better results.  I did not take a single tax payer dime.

I hope that is a little better, but I do not want to discuss much more than that ,until I got my fiance and her son here.  Safe and Sound.

I do not believe I have made a single enemy over there, and if I did.  Then I did not do a very good job.  I simply wish our government, would get more involved and effect real change.

I have not been asked by the current administration to continue, and at this point, I would have to not accept.  I am exhausted, and not as young as when I started.  Working, travel, time difference, getting my house in order, and preparing for the life; that is pretty close to being here.  I know my limits, and I would not have done many things different.

I encourage any of you, that can get involved with anything in Ukraine to do so.  Just give without expecting anything in return.  It is the best way to set proper expectations, for doing good things in Ukraine.
