Visa for inlaws... round 1 : denied
« on: April 06, 2009, 12:46:55 PM »
We are inviting MrsShadows parents to visit us in Belgium (where we reside since a couple of months).
And to our surprise, the Embassy of Belgium seems as random in their decisions as others.

In spite of having all documents, and enough of their own financial means to pay, they were denied the visa.
Grounds were not having proof of income from me (which is not needed) and a non-original invitation (we sent it by Fax).

We will start checking in to the reasons and see if the visa can be given in round 2.
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

Sorry to hear about the denial, Shadow.  You know what you need there, but here the in-laws often need a sponsor for the trip.  Maybe an original document and you as a sponsor will allow them to travel.

Good luck with round 2!  :D

Shadow,

Sorry to hear you've hit a hurdle but I trust you'll get it sorted quickly.

I bet the grandparents are dying to see your new baby!!!

All good things come to he who waits!

Good luck,

Kuna

At least here for a Schegen tourist visa invitation we need to show (among other things) a salary slip, bank account statements and tax returns to get the invitation (and the obligatory declaration of financial support) notarized by the police. I think it mentions somewhere that the invitee must send the original invitation documents with the visa application too, not duplicates.

The proof of income is needed only if you sponsor. They can show more than enough means to pay for the trip (Eur 38 per person per day).
The original invitation has been faxed to the Belgium Embassy. Hope it will help.

Maybe Norway is a little different then as we have to sign a declaration to guarantee all costs incurred by the visitor and of course to accept this they need to see that you're financial able to do so. This is only for long term visits of a month or more I think; for a few weeks I don't think it's necessary.

I'm just wondering if your chances of acceptance will increase if you do go the sponsorship route?

Hi Shadow,

I think the problem is you just moved to Belgium but you are  a Netherland citizen.

Hope you do not live in Brussels as the crime is getting worse here each day.  Need the cold weather to come back to keep the criminals inside.

That is one of the reasons why we did not choose the sponsorship, as we do not know if it can be obtained on Dutch income.. The other is that the inlaws can and do actually pay for themselves...
We are not in Brussels but in a small town near Hasselt. So far not too many criminals.

After sending requested forms and proof of income, a letter confirming the income from the Dutch Tax office was requested.
To this I replied in honesty that the 2008 declaration could not be confirmed by the Dutch Tax office until June.

And to our suprise..... visa was granted.
Inlaws are bound to land 1st of May.

They have not seen Shadow Jr, and as they did not meet their other grandchildren as babies they will be thrilled.
Also it will give a nice view of how Russians see the EU as tourists.  ;)
