Here's the National Review Corner blog link..
Some weird  stuff going on lately, thought I'd share. Have a glance..

The Amazing Power of the Culture (Interlude)   [Maggie Gallagher] I've been interrupted over this last week by events: Iowa and Vermont. The National Organization for Marriage (my organization) stepped up the release of a new ad, "Gathering Storm," which provoked an energetic response from the Human Rights Campaign.

Iowa went gay marriage? IOWA? Where my grandad's family grew corn? In the middle of America? Good Grief!!
Will the next few years spawn foreign gay fiance  visas? Looks like that ball could be on the roll.
And what about the effort and all the $$$ we have spent to import and legalize the ladies of our lives?

Illegal Immigration, the Great Democratic Hope   [Victor Davis Hanson]

There is a great deal of chest-thumping among Obama's supporters that "comprehensive immigration" reform is an invaluable campaign issue that will ensure a Democratic Southwest, as Republicans fall into some sort of nativist trap.

I'm not so sure. Hispanics respect the rule of law as much as anyone; closing the borders first, then worrying about the auxillary issues later, won't necessarily prove polarizing, especially if presented in terms of a desire to insist on the rule of law and a racially/ethnically blind nation.
There is brewing, I understand, an idea, to make illegal immigrants already here in the USA real live citizens.

Karl,

The progressive (aka socialist) administration will have a mixed view on immigration.  Yes they want to legalize poor illegals or at least let them vote (legally or not).  This has shown to enlarge their power base.

On the other hand, legal immigrants are another matter, they tend to be more self-reliant and don't take too kindly to socialism and big government.  K1 visa immigrants tend to be more in the self-reliant camp and are barred anyway from relying on government assistance (thus the government can't control them by buying their allegiance with taxpayers money).

So your concern about the K1 being in jeopardy is well-founded.

Hmmm.  I just did a mental tally of all the K-2 children, of which I'm aware, who have been denied their green cards by the USCIS on account of a fictitious aging out.  One is a Brit, two are from the PRC, one from Vietnam and 12 are from the FSU.  It seems that either the vast majority of K visas are going to FSU women or, the USCIS is harboring some sort of bias against FSU fiancee families and are denying the kids in hopes the stress will cause the couples to divorce and the FSU immigrants to leave.

That is not all that surprising.  Iowa is one of the very few places where people do not seem all that interested in imposing their will on others.  As long as you were not violating children or animals people did not seem to interested in poking their nose in your business.  Colorado used to be that way then we were invaded by idiot New Yorkers.

Colorado is a patchwork of liberal and conservative depending on where you live. Many of the rural counties are still quite conservative and subscribe to the precepts of 'rugged individualism' noted in years past. Metro areas, however, are as liberal as it gets.

I had a lengthy discussion with Diana DeGette the other day. She succeeded Pat Schroeder in Colorado's 1st District (Denver and region) and is now Colorado's ranking Representative. It seemed like every 'solution' she had in mind involved one consistent theme - and that is, that government needs to be more involved. She is an engaging and warm woman - just one who's political ideology is polar opposite of mine - AND - she is vastly more influential.

Back on-topic - would it be so bad to have the K-1 legislation reworked? The origin of the K-visa dates to the War Brides Act following WWII. There are often complaints that the K-1 imposes a rush to marriage that can lead to hasty and poor decisions. Perhaps there is an opportunity to have the underpinnings of the K-1 revisited, with the outcome being a more rational process and timeframe that is more conducive to building strong marriages. Admittedly, I am ignorant of the necessary political processes to guide a successful outcome - but wouldn't it be worth at least some consideration?

Dan,

The K-1 visa is generally a good one.   The 90 days is the only thing I'd change. Should probably be 6 months.

That and this misguided notion that LPR status is no longer automatic upon marriage as it was the before the 1986 Marriage Fraud Amendments.   Those amendments were only designed to put in place  a review of the relationship once the marriage was a couple years old to deter the "let's get married today and divorced next week" scam.

The business about K-1 aging out is pretty much getting settled as more and more cases are being heard and resolved against the age-out misconception.  I expect the USCIS to issue a policy directive in the near future, it's long overdue and the absence of one is wasting a lot of government resources.
