well do wonders never cease!

I was sent a picture yesterday from a woman that I am chatting with and she took a picture with a friend with their faces touching. My girl is faintly smiling while her friend has a huge full-on smile!!

oh, that explains why sometimes i got asked for a smile picture, while they already had 1 !!!! i guess it ain't a smile for you if it has no teeth? :P I personally don't like the way i look with a "full" smile, but i do use it. I dont like to fake it for a photo. I did it a couple times, and i do not look like myself on them at all.

Aloe, it is not worth arguing- Americans think that if people do something different (from the way Americans are accustomed to) then it us weird and wrong.
It is about everything- smiles, food, habits, etc.

In my experience, Russians in general are precisely the same as Americans in this respect  ;D

There is a russian joke: "улыбаясь вы делаете свои зубы беззащитными" - when you are smiling your teeth are unprotected  :P

Also, about the photo-smiles - it's not about the number of teeth showing, it's about the eyes glowing...   ;)

If anything I would say more so groov. I see many Americans see things and wish to know why for knowledge and interest/curiosity only. I do not hear many Americans saying it is very bad for people Russian people to not smile in pictures,(obviously some do) but I hear many many reasons why FSU people say you must not smile in pictures and all Americans are fake because of it. On the converse I do not hear many Americans say all Russian people are grumpy because they do not smile in pictures. It did always amaze me how you could be having a small a small dinner party/ bbq and when the camera came out, the posed smile came out, camera went away and the smiles came back.

My guess is it has to do with simply the culture of do not let people really know who you are, because they may use it against you. And the if people are smiling , and they are not your family, they must want something from you.

I have not missed a tooth-pointing smile of my beloved.
I would miss this smile of her eyes. The smile of the eyes is always honest.
... And for the heart of a man definitively more dangerously
than the look at a few front teeth. I´m sure. I´m very sure :)
There are two irrefutable truth in this world:
Women are more clever than men and
the earth is a disc

So many good points brought out in this discussion, I would tend to agree with the majority, who cares about the teeth in the smile, it's the beauty of the person inside that really matter, I myself have been accused of having a gruff mean look on my face in so many of my pictures that I actually make a conscious effort now when in groups to make sure I am smiling and now frowning... as far as I am concerned, when and IF I do meet that special lady that makes my heart flutter, I know I will be smiling on the inside and hopefully on the outside as well as my eyes glowing with excitement.

I'm not surprised - she's looking very happy in that pic! Did you check to see if she wears comfortable shoes?

Who is the woman on her laps?  :-\

she isn't on her laps - the hips of two girls are too far apart.
