Hello from Louisiana
« on: May 01, 2009, 10:47:01 AM »

I'm new to the site, but I've got some good info so far. I met my lady
thru one of the dating site quite a few months ago. We have met
once since in a neutral territory(Germany)and had a great time. She
paid her own travelling expenses and we got to know each other
very well. So much so that since that  wonderful meeting, she
consented to be my bride. Neither of us are well off and can't afford
to do the ocean hoping. So we decided to get married on my trip to
her home, Nikolaev, Ukraine, this summer and she would move to the
USA later this year. She tells me that I only need my passport and proof
that I am not presently married. I am not familiar with the process, so
any info you offer will be appreciated. She also says its better to fly
into Odessa and take a taxi to Nikolaev. I need info on customs requirements,
hotel or apartment selection, transportation available, Ukraine customs and
procedure on marriage, immigration process after marriage in country
and any else that may fit my situation.

Welcome to RWD, Tuinton.

First off, let's say that a Poll is not the most suitable way to get the info you seek ;).

There are several sub-boards here, like Immigration and Visas (http://www.russianwomendiscussion.com/index.php?board=7.0) and Married (http://www.russianwomendiscussion.com/index.php?board=5.0) that you may find worth reading.

All your documents will have to be translated into Ukrainian.

VisaJourney has additional information about K-3 or IR-1/CR-1 visas.  http://www.visajourney.com/faq/k1faq.htm

Congratulations on your engagement.
Here's a link [if perhaps you haven't seen it]...

As far as I know, [even though you are already married] the K-1 visa is still the fastest way to bring your bride to the USA.

GoodBrew is correct, you will need to have all your documents translated into Ukrainian.  Welcome to the forum!

As you are hearing, you need your passport main page translated into Ukrainian, a Non-Impediment to Marriage (from the Embassy or Department of State) and, if ever married before, copies of your apostiled previous Divorce Decree (also translated into Ukrainian). She provides the rest of the paperwork from her documents and then you pay the fees.

Note: You need to look into the apostile process for any previous divorce decree location. States have different offices and procedures as well as charges for this routine.

Also, K-3 is your process if married, not K-1, and they are about the same wait times lately (per my immigration lawyer).
Pick and choose carefully among the advice offered and consider the source carefully. PM, Skype or email if you care to chat or discuss
