How did you do it?

So how did you enter the pool? Shallow end on the steps? Jump into that cold water from the side or the heck with it, straight into the deep end?

Met a girl at work who had been temporarily assigned to help me get accustomed to living and navigating about Moscow. When it was clear that she didn't like nor trust Americans, I asked a female associate (RW) if she could help me. It was just over 17.5 months later that I was fortunate enough to marry the person who had gradually become my best friend.

Stubbed my toe near the edge and fell in.

Gleefully jumped in the deep end, and then treaded water for 6 years.

A swan dive into the shallow end.  After my less than visible abrasions healed.  I dove again but this time understood the depth.

Did some curiosity toe-dipping, found the water a bit cold to my liking and walked away. I never forgot where the pool was and went back to the more familiar waters only to soon figure out it didn't please me. Back to the cold water pool and dove right in. Quickly then deciding this is my kind of pool.

I would say that I basically cannon-balled into the middle zone. It was total immersion though.

Used EM to setup about a dozen dates over the first 4-5 weeks in the country, then selected the best 2 for another week and got down to one to concentrate on. Then just dated steadily for nearly 7 months.

Went on vacation to an eastern european country and got sucked into the rip tide.
