Seeker,

I just love the old school music  8)  I like all types of music but music from now can't beat old school. Most of it is before my time but my appreciation is nevertheless still great. I have another tribute and this time to Cat Stevens 'Wild World' by Mr.Big: BOTH ROCK!!!   :hipdude:

Very cool!  That was a great cover.

I agree with you about the old school music.  Only difference is I remember it being 'new' and played on AM radio while laying on the beach as a kid.  In part, it shaped who I am today.

It makes me glad to know it continues on.

Seeker,

I was born in '78 and missed all the great heroes: Deep Purple, Jimmy Hendrix, De Doors, T-Rex, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, and many more. I did a lot o catching up. For instance, it was a surprise to me that Iron Maiden was influenced by Deep Purple. They sound so much alike.

Of course i have a lot of disco music for my parents loved disco. I have been trying to reminisce music of my youth and before...buying and downloading whatever I can get my hands on. I-tunes has helped out a lot for it is easy to search for the original versions. If you have some suggestions I will check it out.

I love everyone you mentioned (except Iron Maiden... saw them when they were starting out in a club on Sunset (I think), and they sucked at the time) but my favorites will always be:

Moody Blues
The Doors
Jethro Tull
Pink Floyd
Bob Dylan

Followed by dozens of others, including some more 'modern'.  Music is great the way it transcends time and generations.

Peace Dude!

Well well, a song by Neapolitan Renato Carosone (http://www.renatocarosone.it/inglese/home.html) from our 1950s. Here are a few others:

Seeker,

Moody Blues and Jethro Tull are unknown to me. I will check them out.

From the new rock band I am a big fan of Killswitch Engage 'Arms of Sorrow'. Beware for those with soft and tender ears  ;)

Sandro, is he still alive? (Considering he has been born in 1920... I'm afraid not  :'( ).

But seems Carosone's "Americano" returns each 10 years - here's the previous incarnation, done by Lou Bega:

Sandro, is he still alive? (Considering he has been born in 1920... I'm afraid not  :'( ).
He passed away in 2001, after retiring in 1960 at the top of his popularity - he was rightly afraid that his type of music would wane very rapidly with the arrival of rock'n'roll and similar - and staged a comeback in 1975, performing in occasional live concerts until the late 1990s.

Quote
Beginnings
Carosone was born in Naples. He studied piano at his hometown's Conservatory and obtained his diploma in 1937, when he was just 17. He soon signed a contract as a band leader for a tour of Africa. After that job, he ended up in Addis Ababa working as a pianoplayer. In a short while he became quite famous there and had several gigs as band leader. He returned to Italy only in 1946, after the end of World War II.

Those ten years spent abroad had exposed him to new rhythms and new sounds, but, in spite of his international success, Carosone was a stranger to the Italian audience. He had to start his career afresh, playing the piano in some small dance-hall bands.

Seeker,

I was born in '78 and missed all the great heroes:

...

Ah you were born in year my faves were in their heydays... Boston, Journey, Styx, Foreigner, Triumph, Starship (reborn), Kansas, Blue Oyster Cult, and even KISS (not much musically, but hellaciously killer concerts, saw a show on their '96 reunion tour in their home town of NYC at Madison Square Garden..it was grrrrreat!) love that 70's power rock. I never was much of a metal head or grunge fan, but I basically learned to play guitar from learning their leads and progressions note for note.

Shostakovich,

Brilliant!!!

Daveman,

Just great! I will check into the bands I do not have yet. Kiss, they are magic! Boston are really cool! I have both. I will write the others up.

Yes it does - so there are two loooooong but blank posts, which doesn't help to view that thread, actually.

Can you (as a mod) or the local techs fix it maybe?

Wow! ....let me add to that list, if you don't mind , , , . I always love this ...until Cher showed up anyway.

Guilty pleasure from the to the .

Anyone know what happened to these ? I though they were going to be huge in the '90s...but then they just fizzled out.

GQ Blues,

I think there was simply no place for them after Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains.

You're probably right, 3T....

....along with Gin Blossoms, Oasis, GooGoo Dolls, Smasking Pumpkins, Train, Soungarden, and I hate to say this..Creed.

Too bad, especially for SG and Creed.

I used to wonder why a band like Boston never followed up with an album like the one they hit big on before, and it just seemed like they just disappeared. But came to find out later on that it was their label that kept them from releasing materials they wanted to release because they weren't commercial enough...

Darn label companies!

Chris Cornell, lead singer from Soundgarden, got back at the label company by making the soundtrack for Casino Royal 2006 James Bond movie. His album is pretty good too. I have to look up Gin Blossoms and Creed.

Thanx GQ!
