Bodyguard/Translator/Concierge Service
« on: May 25, 2009, 08:09:36 PM »
Hello all, I have a colleague  and good friend from the Ukraine,- (former World Champion weightlifter) who is a US resident and fluent in 4 languages ( English, Russian, Ukrainian and Polish) He is ex Spetsnatz( Special Forces) and  is starting a personal concierge /bodyguard service for US guys travelling to the Ukraine, or anywhere in the FSU .  He feels very strongly that he can help reduce and eliminate the ripoff factor with some of the ladies there, as well as the local merchants , and some of the more obvious criminal element. He asked me to post this message to see what the general feeling is for a service which includes:

-Accompanying the client from the USA ( generally from the major jumping off point say NY, Chicago, etc) to anywhere in the FSU ( His specialty is Russia and the Ukraine and he was born in Kazakhstan)

- Guiding them through the customs and assorted hassles at the airport

- Arranging for transportation to apartment or hotel

-  Being his personal Bodyguard/Driver and Interpreter during all meetings with women

- Being on call 24-7 during the entire trip- including accompanying client BACK to the USA

- He is also familiar with the  the K-1 Application process

- And, through his own contacts with the agencies there, set up additional meetings with more women

He is willing to be very flexible on rates but generally about $250-300 per day plus all applicable expenses. ( This is for a 24 day- see below)

I told him although his services may not be neccessary for some of the old hands here,  those same services woudl be invaluable for the newbie and could in the long run save someone a lot of money.  ( and your neck if things got dicey there- nothing  like having your own bodyguard!)
What appealed to me is the "on call 24-7" And dont forget, he is literally your employee while there, so no hidden agendas, and of course he lives here in the USA. Anyone need info, please send me a message. Note- he just finished his Grad School Work and his schedule is very flexible.
His website is being designed as we speak, so please be patient.

What do you all think?

Speaking in context of using his services while visiting Ukraine, my first reaction is that I agree that while many won't need his services, I can think of several who "should" use them.

As to his price, well that is a different matter. The first problem I see is that many will balk when you add it up. You're looking at his RT airfare from the states, two hotel rooms or a larger apartment than expected, meals, renting a car for him to drive, gas, etc. Those costs mount up to where I am thinking a week would run about an extra $3000 to $3500 or so, depending on how much driving around you do.

Of course, that covers 24/7 translation services, the driving, baggage-handling and maybe he can help reduce some of the more low-key ripoffs like taxi drivers and such. The thing that will have to be "sold" is what value does he really bring to the table as assessed by the client? He would really need to develop a product which takes away the headaches and uncertainty of the accommodations, transportation and sell that his loyalty is unquestionably to the client in order to spot and avoid the scams.

There were only a couple of times over three years that I was even vaguely uneasy about physical security in Ukraine. Course, I recall some real idiots who seemed absolutely intent upon creating an international incident over things like restaurant service or deliberately insulting the locals. So, I discount the BG service, maybe others feel differently though and one of those idiots did manage to get himself shot with their little BB guns in an altercation.
Pick and choose carefully among the advice offered and consider the source carefully. PM, Skype or email if you care to chat or discuss

My experience on bodyguards in Kiev as follows:

Very easy to get a reputable body guard in Ukraine from a legit agency.  Costs around $200 usd a day which includes a very nice car.  Can get a translator for $100 a day.  So for $300 usd a day you have car, translator, and bodyguard.  A bodyguard who works for a company that will not get pushed around by the local police.  Hard to compete with these prices.

Costs will be the same for other areas of Ukraine and will go up a little in Moscow.

You know, I think I could use his services. Everywhere I go women mob me, try to rip my clothes off and drag me back to their rooms...I am so tired of fighting them off!

This sounds either like a scam or a REALLY bad business idea. First of all, I've been around the Ukraine many times and crime/scams in the country are no worse than most other countries I've been to, so the need for such a service is debatable for most common travelers.

With that in mind, ANY service that has people IN the Ukraine waiting for you at the airport with a car included in their fare (as most security companies do anywhere in the world) will be able to compete against this. No plane ticket, for starters. And as far as "arranging meetings" over there, again, I can't see how they could ever compete with a local. Truth be told, they way it is said here sounds a bit like a "concierge" arranging you meetings with "professional" girls.
