Thanksgiving

They don't care for turkey or pumpkin.

Anyone else have this problem and how did you handle Thanksgiving dinner with your family? We are going to my mother's house and there will be about 16 of us this year.

My wife is preparing a smoked chicken salad.

Last year (for Christmas dinner with my mom) Elena thought it was really funny that we had jam (cranberry sauce) with Turkey and I got funny looks as I was getting the stuffing ready (apples, onions, bread, nuts, etc). This year we are going to keep it simple and will probably stay home to enjoy the day off together and bbq something (probably salmon for her and a steak for me).  I'm going to ask her to make some of the salads that she has made before which are wonderful. One is a beet salad and another is with garlic and cheese (more like a spread to put on crackers), the other is with crabmeat, onions and corn.

Good luck and tell us how it went.

Clyde,

It is only one day a year now, so they will just have to buck up!  Don't coddle them either!  You have to make your wife understand that Thanksgiving is one of your traditions that she will have to honor.  It is all about your family's traditions and not about her choice of foods.  I am sure there will be many side dishes for her and your son to eat.  No one ever starved at one of our Thanksgiving dinners and I am sure yours won't be much different.  Besides she and Jr can eat the smoked chicken salad.

It took Lena a while to get the hang of Thanksgiving too.  She also claimed she didn't like pumpkin pie, but someone finished it off mysteriously in the night and it wasn't me!  I don't understand how anyone that likes chicken wouldn't like turkey?  Hang tough on this one, Clyde, because you don't have to give up every traditions just because you married a RW.  The dislike of the foods might just be a ruse because she doesn't really want to go for some other reason. You may also have to explain that men watching football like beached whales is also part of the tradition!

I've been asked to buy either a duck or goose for upcoming xmas celebrations.. They're hard to find fresh here so I told my wife that we could maybe find a live one somewhere (local park with lake or zoo), but there's no way in hell this animal lover is going to kill and slaughter one.

She said 'bez problem.. I do that.. its easy..'

Yikes!!

BC,

Slaughtering animals (mainly pigs) is no problem because some people living in small villages raise pigs for food. My wife's mother has two pigs. It would be strange though to see this frail looking woman kill them. I think her son dos the honors.

You know, as a Brit I don't really know exactly what Thanksgiving is. Is it just like a Christmas meal?

Here in UK we aren't allowed to say 'Christmas' because it offends the Muslims, we have to say 'Festive'.

No Christmas Cards all allowed at school and the town yesterday switched on it's 'Festive' lights.....

It irks me to Ken, terribly!!!!

Picture this: A man meets a RW. They are talking about traditions and she asks "what traditions do you have in America?". His answer: None, we are not allowed to have any because we may offend someone.... People need to f***ing wake up!!!!! And I don't usually swear.

American Thanksgiving will also soon be threatened because some PC jerk  will remember it started as a "Thank you God for having let us survive  a year in the new world" day.  Believe me, the minute the PC  Thought Police remember that those pilgrims said a prayer of thanks  giving before they ate the turkey back in 1631, that holiday will be  gone.

My Ukrainian wife, her daughter and her friends love the turkey when I cooked while in the Ukraine, but did not like the pumkin pie, too much cinnamon. I cooked turkey in Nov. 03, Dec. 04 and when we go back Dec. 05 she asked me to cook turkey again. They usually cook duck or something else.

They have try something similar by us, but it was not working... the last crazy thing they have try is to add Arab like national language to our country... i respect culture from other people until they respect my own culture in my own country...

I am against discrimination but here, the politic have invent a new word : " positive discrimination "... it mean that foreigner have more right that local people... by example, some state money for boss who use newcomers to our country... for me, positive or negative, a discrimination is always a discrimination... same right and DUTY for everybody... assimilation or desintegration, they need to choice.

The door of my house is open for help people... but these people need to remember that it is MY home, with MY rule and MY tradiction...

* several week holliday in november with night orgy ( ramadan )

* trip to the mecca

* can marry several woman ( not sure it is a advantage )

* can divorce very fastly ( just need to say : "go away" )

Bruno,

I have already tried all these, well sort of, here's my modified version:

Maybe it is not need to complain...

* 5 pause during working day ( I used to smoke! )

* several week holliday in november with night orgy ( I used work in a strip club :D the all night orgies got old! )

* trip to the mecca ( I used to prefer South Beach Miami or New York )

* can marry several woman ( I never liked Utah! )

* can divorce very fastly ( Couldn't relate to this on I was never redneck but rednecks just: "run away" )

Maybe it have some advantage... for the man only... ( Hell no! Women can get away with it even easier ;) )

PS: i am not against foreigner... but i protect my culture... ( I agree totally )

Independance Day!! How dare you! As a Brit I am offended and you are oppressing me!

I am suing you for abusing me and each time you mention it I am reminded of your Victorious past and how it demeans those who are less-victorious.

And it's not PC, because that marginalises us Mac users, so please refer to it as PC (or Mac, Amiga, SPARC or VAX or any other hardware platform who may be offended by not being included and any others not mentioned by error, ignorance or otherwise caused by mistakes which are nobodys fault and those that make them are to be lauded for their effort and not called thick). Ok?

Damn Ste,

I thought the United States was politicaly correct.  God forbid anyone get offended.  What would happen if you found Ramadan offensive?  Would the Muslims change the name of the holiday? I don't think so. The next step will be to call a women who has been raped a "unwilling sperm recipient" and then give her phamplets to instruct her on how to testify in court so that her attacker won't have his feelings hurt or lose any of his rights.

All of this PC makes me want to go and get festively inebriated:D

I think I was born 150 years to late, give me a good horse, a rifle, pistol and a good rope and I'd be content.

Christmas - Bah! Humbug!

I thought this thread was about Thanksgiving?

My Lady was sick for her first Thanksgiving and could not stand the smell of food, then for her second she was with child and again the smell of food made her sick. Her third Thanksgiving she had a blast cooking Turkey with all of the fixings but she dose not like pumpkin pie, she still made me one. Sense then Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years she has a ball cooking and making one Hell of a party.
