Anyone read German?
« on: June 10, 2009, 03:00:13 AM »
Does anyone read German and can translate?  I was wondering, I've been doing genealogy and found a ships manifest, that lists one of my great grandfathers from 1733, coming to America.  But, he is having listed as died in Germany.  The log, other than his name and the year and America, is written in German.
Feel free to pm me, if have any advice, questions, or anything else.

I do read German, but not sure if I can translate the language of 1773 as it might be slightly different from todays German.

No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

I was thinking the exact same thing, but I'll be happy to give it a go anyway.

Have you searched the Ellis Island site?  http://www.ellisisland.org/

Sculpto, I did search the ellis island site, but it don't go back to 1773.  I'm perplexed as to why he came to America and then is having listed as died in Germany.  I'll Pm the record, to everyone that wants to try, there was also an add on to the record, in 1976.
Feel free to pm me, if have any advice, questions, or anything else.
