Question on popping the question/engagement

What woman does not know she is getting engaged before the man actually asks?  From my own experience and observations I am convinced that the women know well before we do.

No I am not planning on asking that question.  I am only attempting to confirm a theory.

Hi JDK,

Both times I got married it was a surprise.  I really thought my current wife knew but it was a shock to her.

I visit Ukraine several times a month when we dated so I think the element of surprise was easier for me.  Also, I speak enough Russian to arrange things were I proposed to make things seem normal to her.  I also proposed in Kiev (which I am more familiar with than most people who have lived there 20 years) and not her home city of Kharkov. 

But most women do know in advance.  I think a couple things happen.  Men inquire to make sure there not wasting money on a ring or a woman pushes it.  Seems most RM and AM I know who got married were pushed into it by the woman.
