Scientists say the figures for men may be the result of natural selection – that only the healthiest, most successful older men are able to attract younger mates.  A man's chances of dying early are cut by a fifth if their bride is between 15 and 17 years their junior.

I agree with the above statements from the article.  Notice is does not say live longer - it says less likely to die early.

Old news from a week or so ago, this thread already exists.

If you're looking at younger women for this reason, you will probably have more success with a puppy.

Note that the study did not break down into nationalities..

There are advantages to a pet other than living longer:

Maintenance is lower
Cost is lower
Love is unconditional
You get your leg humped every now and then
Can still screw around without having to worry about it
