Skiing in Bulgaria

Has anyone skied in Bulgaria?

I saw an article in the NY Times recently about how there's great skiing and excellent resorts in Bulgaria for bargain prices. I'm thinking of spending a week there in Jan. with a Ukrainian lass, since it's also easy for her to get a tourist visa.

Don't know about Bulgarian skiing, but I have heard that there is some fine skiing in Western Ukraine.  I believe Dan has been there.  Give him a shout.

Yep - been there. Twice in fact. Unfortunately, the snow levels were not great. The two main areas are near Yaremche - called Tysovets and Slavsko.

Yaremche is in western Ukraine not far from Lviv.

There are several other ski areas - including Crimea on Ay-Petri (never tried it), but the two listed are the largest and most popular.

FWIW - Yushenko went to Tysovets not long ago.

I know a man who lives in Lviv who may be able to give you some more specific information. He moved there early this year to open an agency with his wife (who is from there I believe). Let me know if your interested and I'll send you his contact info.
