Sad news - Liliya's father has died
« on: June 25, 2009, 05:40:08 AM »
Lil headed back to Russia for her annual summer visit knowing her father's health was deteriorating rapidly. He's been struggling against a number of ailments for the better part of a year, and has been in and out of the hospital several times. She and Kolya touched down in N. Novgorod yesterday afternoon. Some 5 to 6 hours later, her father died in his apartment. Although he was known to have "raised some hell" in his younger years, he was a good man, with a good soul and will be very deeply missed...

It saddens me to hear this, Jim.  Please pass my condolences to your family.

One thing that lifts me up is to remember that no one is ever really gone, as their spirit becomes part of each person whose life they have touched.

Very sad news Jet.  I remember you posting his US holiday photos and the joy shared by your family on that trip.  My condolences to you and your family.

I also recall papa's visit to America.  The photos showed that he had a good time here.  He seemed proud of his grandson, and I am sure that he was proud of his stepson.  He raised a fine daughter.

Sincere thanks for all the condolences. Spoke to her again earlier today, and she's having a pretty rough go of it. Family there is looking to her to "take care of everything" and she hardly knows where to begin. Babushka is about the only one who's been really trying to help with whatever she can, so maybe it'll give her some small comfort to know so many folks back here in the states have expressed their sympathy.

It seems Nikolay waited for daughter and grandson to arrive.  Tell Liliya that her father, having shed his earthly bonds, is now free to move about the universe and is learning the answers to a million questions.

No, there really isn't anything that can be done from this end, but appreciate the offer.

It seems Nikolay waited for daughter and grandson to arrive.  Tell Liliya that her father, having shed his earthly bonds, is now free to move about the universe and is learning the answers to a million questions.

I am absolutely sure that he's held on these last weeks for exactly that reason, once he was sure they were with him, he could finally rest. She takes some comfort in knowing he'll be reunited with her Mom.

I do believe that if it had to happen, better now than to spend day after day wondering if this will be the last day, or for him to pass on shortly after her return to the US.

Thanks for the prayers Greg, he did indeed outlast the national average by 2 or 3 years.

Condolences from Svetlana and I, Jim & Liliya. Svetlana herself lost her mother from Brain, Lung and Bone cancer this past February. Ten months after the initial Diagnosis.
Thoughtful that you posted a photo. Always good to put a face to a Subject, the Man :)

Also, if you have a Russian Orthodox Church near by - go the on the 9th day from the passing away of Father and lit a candle for his "soft afterlife sleeping".    And if not - just lit a candle anyway, anywhere you want.    Nature will take it's course.    :)
