Different beaches
« on: June 29, 2009, 06:29:16 PM »
Hello everyone,
I'm not sure if this is the correct place to ask but my mother-in-law from Moscow is coming to visit us next month for 3 weeks and she wants to visit the beach. I'm not really a beach person and I have only been to it once in my life so I don't have any experience.
My question is which beach along the east coast would be the best to visit? Virginia Beach would be the closest to us. If anyone has been there what did you think of it and how does it compare to beaches in North and South Carolina?

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Depends on what yoiu are looking for in a beach.

VA Beach, Myrtle Beach, Ocean City MD etc... are all very similar with very minor differences to notice. These places you will also notice have mostly Russian Students with all the jobs this time of year. May give her the at home feeling. But they are commercialized and very busy beaches.

If you want more of a quiet less commercialized feel, Places like Top Sail Island and surrounding places etc in NC would be good. Naggs Head also. Much more for a relaxed trip.

Now if you want more of the clear water and Palm trees feel you are looking to head to Florida.

Carolina ( N & S) shore is pretty nice.    And not to crowded, which is important....

If your MIL is anything like mine her first time at the beach could have been at ANY beach.  The squealing with pure joy was something to behold... and I'm sure everyone within 200 metres did behold!   :o

Don't know what your beaches are like there but ours can be VERY dangerous where there's surf so just be careful if she gets out of her depth.

Va Beach IS NOT FOR THE FAMILY(too much crime),Drive the extra 1-2 hrs and enjoy the OBX area. You cannot pay me to go to VB. Outerbanks is more family friendly. PM me for my cell number. There are a lot of students working here this summer.
