phantom,

I guess you're asking because of the criticism you got in another thread.  Let me share somehting with you...  if you can't deal with that you'll struggle with a RW.  Try letting the water slip off the ducks back.

Are you genuine in your search?  Are you following an honourable approach?  Are you acting as a gentleman should?  Yes??? Then why give a damn what others say???

If you're committed to leaving RWD you could just not log in... or if you want to opt-out I guess you could PM Dan.  You will be the one who is disadvantaged though, no one else.

All the best,

Kuna

Don't let anybody drive you off. Stick around, it'll only tick them off some more. At some point you'll receive enough training dealing with this crap that you'll be totally prepared for almost any RW you meet. They can be stubborn, obstinate and quite direct so this the perfect battle ground to hone your skills. Shouldn't be that way but I'm trying to look on the upside to the confrontation here.  ;D

Now that I've checked in, I won't be checking out.  When I post about the first meeting, this year, yes this year for sure, then you'll see, who's the keyboard romeo, then I'll jabb others.
Feel free to pm me, if have any advice, questions, or anything else.

It's called self-restraint as in "don't come back" but I see that five hours later you've decided to become a permenant fixture. I wonder which end has the most resolve...

I hope you do go. And that there's something wonderful in it for you. But the threats and vulgarity could stand to go also, just somewhere else...

Phantom,

I am pleased that you will stay around.

Credit is  due for calming down fairly quickly from your tirade and returning with a better attitude.  Also, we need to give you some credit for having not taken a step backwards, unlike some men.

Nevertheless, you still have not taken a full step forwards. This is the concern of some experienced men.  My added concern is that your questions over the years do not show marked improvement in your comprehension.  Dating RW requires battlefield decisions.

I do not know what prevented you from taking that full step forwards.  Only you can decide if it is behind you, and if not, whether you can manage both it and the process of pursuing RW.

Good luck to you.  Hope to hear from you after your return.

Gator,

Yes, as there was another thing weighing on me when I went on my tirade and I do tend to cool off quickly.  :)  I  understand about the concerns that I have not taken the trip yet, and have posted things over the last couple of years.  A sort of two year illness, of depression/panic attacks, which I've been emberessed of, over personnel events, a few years back hit me.  Telling  myself then, I was ready to go and thinking of it, did not help.

Doing better now, I will be and intend to make my first trip this year, the first meeting will be with a lady in Kazan, I was introduced to outside of the agencies, by a delivery business owner and his wife.  They live in the UK, she speaks English, so communication won't be a problem.

So, with the "problems" behind me, I will be going on my first FSU adventure and posting a report and pictures when I go.
Feel free to pm me, if have any advice, questions, or anything else.

Every trip is different for everybody. It is important that you are well prepared when you go. It is likely best that you didn't go when you weren't emotionally prepared. You really need to be ready for anything when you go. If you aren't in the best frame of mind, it can truly be difficult to deal with everything that can be thrown at you on your first trip.

It likely will feel like a whirlwind of emotions and new experiences. All the new things you will be exposed to can be quite overwhelming or intimidating if you aren't prepared. While you can't plan for everything, try and be well prepared.

Also don't assume that because she speak English, that communication will not be a problem. The cultural differences can and often do affect communication in ways you never expected. I have a good friend who is engaged to a English teacher who is Ukrainian. It is sometimes quite comical/sad how much miscommunication occurs in their relationship even though she speaks excellent English. Communication is not always about your language ability or even if you share a common language. Just food for thought.
Take time to learn the language. Even a little can go a long ways...

Get off your butt and go! Don't make excuses why you can't do it, find a way to make it work! Always go with a backup plan too!!!

yes, I am guite well now, and getting prepared for this trip.  I will ask several questions as I prepare to go as well.  Right now, what I'd like to know, what airlines have non-stop flights to Russia?

THe int'l leg from the US will generally be non stop into Moscow, for example, Atlanta, JFK, Chicago, DC..  you'll need to check around.  Usually though, you'll have at least one stop either here or there unless you live in one of those cities and Moscow is your destination.

Start punching in cities at sites like cheaptickets.com, etc .. that'll give you an idea of what the legs of your journey will be.  Check the individual airline sites as well.

I think Delta generally has the cheapest flights.. but right now it is definitely worth checking around on the different sites.. I saved over $400 with a few clicks for "A's" ticket to Mexico.  Her ticket is less than twice as much as mine from SF to Mexico DF.

Been checking on the flights.  I catch the plane from Detroit, and fly into JFK or Atlanta, and from there it's a non-stop flight, but want to find a better price.  Still looking around.  Once in Moscow, I need to get to Kiev.

Kiev via Moscow seems like the long way around. There has to be alot better options than that. Most major citys in Europe have flights to Keiv.
Unless you are planning to stay a few days in Moscow.

Upstream you said:  the first meeting will be with a lady in Kazan,

Now you talk about Kiev, which is correctly spelled Kyiv.

Do you need to review your geography; or is the woman coming from Kazan to Kyiv?

Been checking on the flights.  I catch the plane from Detroit, and fly into JFK or Atlanta, and from there it's a non-stop flight, but want to find a better price.  Still looking around.  Once in Moscow, I need to get to Kiev.

Moscow is a crazy thought if you are going to Kyiv.  Visa concerns, etc.

Direct flights from JFK to KBP on both Delta and Aerosvit.  Otherwise many good connections to Kyiv from Amsterdam, London, Frankfurt, etc.

From Detroit, it is almost a no-brainer to fly Northwest Detroit -  Amsterdam - Kyiv.
Over the years, Northwest has generally had the cheapest fares from USA to Kyiv.
