as I also live near detroit I can say that in all the time I have traveled there I have flown either thru Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt or direct to Kiev(well to JFK then kiev). I think Moscow requires visa's but as I've never been there I don't know. Funny thing is that it is cheaper to fly to Moscow then kiev, at least from what I've seen. look around. when I look for tickets I usually check every sight repeadedly for days on end just watching the fares as they change. Sometimes one site will have better rates and sometimes others will. Good luck and I hope your trip goes as well as mine have.
