We have half a dozen couple friends where the woman is from the FSU.  Most of our friends are simply American couples.

But this thread probes to find answers to a couple of questions about your FSU couple friends.  The primary question is:  Did they use RWD or boards like this while in the search?  The second question is "how did they meet?"

I will share some stories of couples we know and their story, keeping most names confidential.

Tell us about your FSU friends and their stories...

We will start with the obvious, my friend Gator, and his beautiful wife.

Gator is one of the few married man I know locally that uses boards like RWD. Rivardo here at RWD is also a good friend--but is not in the married status--yet!

Gator is also one of the brightest and most experienced posters we have at RWD.  He offers unparalleled  wisdom to the process, IMHO.  I met him via RWD first, and then later in person when we moved here.

But when I name couples that we know that use boards like RWD, the universe is two.  Gator.  And one more I will share about later...

By the way, before I proceed, I'll add that Rivardo is also a VERY smart guy who is doing it right-- exploring lots of options and girls before "settling" down.

John & Kata (not their real names)

The next couple I'll share about are some of our very best friends.  They live only a few blocks away, and we met them in the grocery store.  John is in the tech industry and Kata is a housewife and mother of a very precious daughter she had with John.

John has never heard of RWD or such boards.  He met Kata six years ago.   He did so by coming across an agency site in Ukraine, and writing a number of girls there.  After a couple of visits, he met Kata and they became engaged.

But no discussion board experience in his case.

Marina and I had the priviledge of meeting up with Vaughn and Alvira about the end of last year.  We pm'd each other after finding out we were within 2 + hours of each in North Carolina.  They are a first class couple and we enjoy their company.

I have met about a dozen people from the boards in real life, and to a person, they were great to be with.

I have not met Vaughan yet, but would love to. He is a first class guy.

I started this strand to test a theory.

That theory is that even though we have almost 5000 posters here, we are but a drop in the ocean of AM/FSU woman  marriages.   Most of our friends know nothing about the boards, and either met via an agency or found their RW after she was already in the US.

I have talked with a three sets of friends (2 Amer/FSUW couples and a Euro couple) about RWD.

Unfortunately, they came here, read a little and said that they were surprised I would stay on a board with this sort of tone to it. The general take was that, like most boards, it has people on it with an agenda and that eventually destroys the benefits of a community. Equally unfortunately, my wife questions how useful it is or even entertaining. The few times she looks over the topics or reads any of the posts, she shrugs them off or laughs at a few of the posters.

Still she respects that it is my hobby and every so often, one of the guys will ask whether anything useful has been posted or even suggest a topic they wonder about but don't care to post themselves.

My husband used some other Board and still does. People help each other, give advice about visa, trips, cities etc. Most of the guys on his board are married for several years.  I am sure this kind of clubs is a very good thing. There is Russian saying: Only the foolish learn from experience — the wise learn from the experience of others.

None of my wife's 3 FSU friends here on the island used the boards or agencies to meet. Only 1 couple met there when he was a newspaper reporter working in Moscow. He grew up here on Maui and his mother was my daughter's 1st grade teacher, thus the connection. The other 2 girls got here on their own, 1 on a tennis scholarship to U of Hawaii (from Kazakastan ), then married after college. The other came with her now ex-husband on a work visa, he was an artist. After 6 months when the visa was up he left and she stayed behind, remarried and is now in the process of getting legal.
Of her friends from home that did use an agency, only 1 of the 4 is still together.

Where are you located, BF?

And how did the weekend feeding of "real" food go with the baby?

Ours was not so good....we will try again in a month or so.

More Friends:

She is from Moscow.  He is from Madrid. She looks a lot like my wife!

We met them via mutual friends, who met them on the children's play ground.

They have a four year old daughter who is tri-lingual.  The father speaks Spanish to her, the mother Russian. The parents speak to one another in English.  I talked to the little girl last week, and I asked her "how do you know English?"  Her reply?  "My friends at school teach me."  :-)

The man has never heard of boards like this.  He met his wife the old fashioned way-- friends introduced them.

Of the couples we know, most met through Elena's. The guys seemed to all have used it at one time or another although some expressed frustration that they could never develop their filters to properly identify women worth working on. A couple of guys seemed (to me) obviously only using the pictures and birthdays and never could figure out why that might be a flawed approach.

One guy I know was really excited about freepersonals, emphasis on the "FREE" part but seemed just as frustrated there.

I don't think EM solves a problem so much as it presents a solution. People still have to figure out how to utilize the steps in implementing the solution and that seems to be where the breakdown most often occurs.

Wouldn't it be interesting if none of the agencies (free or otherwise) posted photos?

My wife and I know 7 couples (RW and foreign man) and no men use this board or any other board.  Most of the men have had horror stories before meeting their wife (many trips, scammers, failed K-1's, etc.)

One of the girls likes to read what I write and talk to my wife.  To her dismay I am open with my wife on everything.  She is a lurker and not registered.  My wife thinks a board like this is silly and thinks it is very strange men hang out here.

Mine too :) Whenever I ask her opinion on some arcane debate here, she always asks me, "is this for Russian Women Discussion?" and then rolls her eyes.  :truce: I think she sees it as some sort of Boys Explorers' Club.
