Thoughts on a hotel in Kiev?
« on: November 26, 2005, 11:52:49 PM »
Sorry if this is the wrong place but here goes.

I am going back to visit my fiance at the end of December and if we're lucky maybe she'll be coming back with me.  :)

Due to how I made travel arrangements I will end up arriving at 11 Pm on the 28th and leaving for her city on the afternoon of the 30th.  Since it's so short I think it'd be better to get a hotel and I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations.

Also if anyone will be in the city on the 29th maybe we can meet up and swap some stories.

Go on www.hotelsukriane.com and do a search for available hotels.   See which hotels offer a descent rate.

I have stayed at the Rus a number of times.  It is fine and within walking distance of Kreshatic.

The Ukraina should be ok.  I have been in the lobby but not the rooms.  It is right off Independence square which is the heart of Kiev.   The last search I did I got pretty good rates there and it is where I will try on my next stay.

The Kreshatik,   I have stayed there twice.  The rooms are small but modern the public areas are drab  but safe.   The prices are a little higher than the others but it is right on the main drag.  I wouldnt avoid it but I have not wanted to go back.

The Dnepro is at the end of Krashtik.  I have not stayed there but put up a gal there on my last trip and was in her room.   I liked it there.   When I got the room for the gal, I paid like $ 80.00.   When I did a search last week I was getting quoted $ 300 or more.   In a price range with the Rus, it would be my choice.

My life is going so many different directions right now I don't know which end is up but one possible scenario (Going to Kiev for Jack's Holiday parties) has me in Kiev when you will be there.

If you haven't been to Kiev sight seeing before, the coolest thing to me is the catacombs at the Lavra

Thanks for your advice Turbo.  The last times I stayed in Kiev were in flats, either Babushka rooms or one time a westernized flat near St. Sophia's.

I was lucky enough the first time I visited to meet a local girl who I had been corresponding with who showed me aroundso I was able to see the Lavra and many of the other monuments.

The second time I was there with my fiance I felt right at home.  Of course the Orange Revolution protesters had been replaced with the hustle of summertime vistors.

You are welcome Ronin.  I was there twice during the Orange Revolution.  It was a cool experience.  I have not been there since but will be there Friday and Satruday of next week and may be back again at the end of the month.  It is an intersting city.

I'll be there on the 29th. POconner, a member here will be there with his family. I rented a studio apt for a few days, and will be visiting Vinnista on the 30th. Perhaps we can get together for dinner. I'd rent an apt or hotel asap due to the upcoming holiday. They rates quickly double.   Anyone have Pavel's  site handy to give to this gentleman? PM me with details. Len
