advice number one read the ten commandments
advice number two, you can find lots of opinions on this site about various websites to find girls. Find one that works for you. Start writing and planning a trip over there. How long to write is up to you. I wrote six months before my travel, but to most that would be excessive. Find a pretty girl, and then go back and reread the ten commandments  :) especially about not falling in love with pictures  :) above all. Have fun and enjoy. You only live once.

I can only add that there is no time like the present to start learning some Russian.  Here is a link to a good site for learning to read: http://www.alphadictionary.com/rusgrammar/alphabet.html

As far as learning to speak and understand, the Lonely Planet phrasebook can be very useful.  The Pimsleur language CDs are also good.  There are also lessons on the internet of varying quality.  For entertaining lessons, search youtube for Russian lessons by Huliganov.
