Gator, I have a friend who's been single for about a year now, here where I live. I just got off the phone with him and he is facing the same dating challenges that I faced when I was single in this area. His story mirrors mine pretty much. He's got women at work flirting with him but they are usually unattractive and overweight. He's tried singles bars, art shows, festivals, etc. Nothing. Only older or unattractive and overweight women. Like me, he went to New York for a week and he met a girl pretty easy there but she doesn't want to move anywhere because of her career. Other than yoga class what would you recommend?
He is 38, 5'9" 160lbs, attractive, great sense of humor, looking for an attractive, in-shape woman 25 to 35. Would love to hear your ideas and I'll pass them along.

He is at a great age to catch a 35-yo professional whose biological clock is ticking,  someone possibly the same as him thinking she was too good for the men around her.  Believe me,  these women are actively hunting for eligible men.

The mother of my sons had plenty of men chasing her including a couple of pitchers for the Phillies and a Supreme Court attorney.  She wanted a baby and chose me because I was the only man with a good job who did not bore her.

If your friend wants someting younger, is he exceptional?   My opinion is that qualities are distributed equally across gender, age, etc., so what makes him better than younger men?  For every overweight chick, there is an overweight guy.  For every shapely woman, there is a shaped guy.

Check the Rags such as Creative Loafing and Weekly Planet for different ideas, e. g., wine tasting event for young professionals.
Sincerely, try the yoga.  The experience is worth it even without meeting a good prospect.  It is a special experience to attempt a tipping crane position.  Your stretched muscles scream in pain and you fight falling on your nose, and all the time having unprecedented views of blood engorged female bodies.

The best part is when the teacher says "relax and breathe deeply." Use this  brief period to sneak looks at prone women, much like looking around the table with your eyes open when your uncle said grace at Thanksgiving.   :D Sometimes you catch a woman looking back at you, and you smile.

Even if he strikes out at yoga, at least  he will have a stronger core, more flexibility, and better balance.

Dance classes are a venue usually with a strong majority of female students ;). BTW, many FSUW seem attracted to belly dancing, but I doubt they may accept male students in those classes ;D.

tell me about it, Sandro! My ex from Moldova was a bellydancer and we had some serious parties with all her friends, bellydancers coming to the house, eating, drinlking bellydancing. Those were some serious fun times. And you are right, you don't see men taking bellydancing classes normally. The thing is, when my bellydancer and I split up, I knew pretty much all the women there, both teachers and students. All were married or were in serious LTRs, or too young or too old for me. One was single and actually very cute, about 27, I liked her, but I found out she was a drug addict...
I have a feeling Yoga class is not going to be much different in my neck of the woods. I think that he'll either meet some one in New York and bring her here, of might even go back to his motherland - Belarus and bring a girl from there on a K-1.

Gator, let me know if you know any 35 yo single women in Tampa. maybe we can introduce them.

Yeah, my ex-wife from Moscow.  Small world!  However, she is not attracted in any way to RM, and in fact avoids them.  Plus, she wants independence, not a husband.

Thanks.  I will look, but in older age ranges.  Maybe Eduard's friend should look.

Listing on Mamba indicates that they quite possibly are more interested in RM.  Why would they live in America and try to surround themselves in Russian ways?

When I worked for the UN in Iran and Egypt in the 1970s, I was single. You would think I would die from lack of sex. I had more interesting dates there than in America.

Women are everywhere.  While many of them may not meet the pretty test, they can still be fun.

Best belly dancer I ever saw was a man.  At Turkish resort area on south sea coast.
He was maybe cross gendered or transvestite or some such; but WOW, he put all the women dancers to shame.  Maybe others here have seen him also.  Can't remember name of town and resort, but he probably moves around a lot.  Very tall and slender man.  I was surprised he didn't get killed in Turkey, but he had already lived to age of late 30s or so; I think.
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.

Possible, but not as easy in Russia. Moving to a large city invariably means paying inflated costs for rent and in the largest of cities, unless you have relatives, you will have to find a really good job and commute quite far daily. Even then, there is no guarantee that you will find a decent man to start a family.

Pretty much how it is in any country in the world. This situation is not limited to Russia.

True, but some women from Russia will not move solely for financial reasons. My wife, for example, turned down a marriage proposal from a German citizen who was courting her (my wife has family in Germany and the fellow was her father's neighbour). She simply did not love him and did not find him intelligent enough. So, yes, it is easier moving from Russia in terms of economics, but not all women are driven solely by finances, and IMHO you should avoid like the plague those women who are only doing it for the economics of it.

I would say that most women won't move "solely" for economic reasons. But wether the woman openly states it, knows it but hides it or isn't even aware of it, it is part of her reasoning and the indicators show that it is a major part of the mixture of what motives her. I know of no instances where a financially stable (or otherwise) FSUW married a rickshaw runner in Asia and moved into his cardboard shack in the middle of the slum because she loves him. Or moved that same man into her world.
Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else :)

JR,

Surely the fact that WM spend thousands to date women halfway across the planet plays a role.  If hard earned and saved funds are used, chances are pretty good.  If based on credit cards or other credit sources, impressive at first but probably not viable for the longer term once she finds out the 'push' to get her into work is to pay off debt.

I think a lot of women are simply deceived as far as their expectations go.

Misha, a number of RW move every year from less advantageous towns to big cities, mostly Moscow. Relatives are of help sometimes, but anyway, in case a person has at least some reasonable assurance that she can establish herself economically in Moscow, she likely would move. Yes her monthly rent increases maybe from 3000 RUR to 30 000 RUR, but at the same time monthly her earnings have a good chance to increase from 15 000 RUR till about 50 000 RUR or even more, depending on her qualifications.
Some girls who work in regional offices for bigger companies may move to headquarters in Moscow, this would be the most secure way to move.

As for me, I moved to Moscow when I had some saved money for at least one year for living without a job in Moscow. I had no relatives there but one long term friend, who sheltered me in her tiny apartment for about 10 days till I found a rent.

The "depending on her qualifications" is the tricky part. Sure, if she is fluent in English and has a good background in accounting or management, her odds are good. If a women is educated but does not have the qualifications or connections to find a good job, then it will be challenging. A librarian in a small city, for example, is not likely to rake in the big bucks even if they move to Moscow  ;)

Agree with you Misha. The good news are, however, that our qualifications is almost completely under our own control. That means that a librarian could use some efforts to upgrade herself to another level which would make her more marketable.

Nevertheless, there is still one incurable thing in people, which is lack of desire to do something with their lives.  :(

Not every Russian wants to live in Moscow and some prefer to work their way up in their own cities. Take my wife, for example. She had scrimped and saved and through the flipping of properties had bought and paid off a room. Had she not met me, her plan was to sell her room and buy an apartment. She worked as hard as any migrant to Moscow to achieve this, and describes the years she spent eating grechka to afford to buy property  :) She preferred achieving all she could in her city, knowing that even if she bought and paid for an apartment in her city, it would be close to impossible to sell it and buy something comparable in Moscow. She has a friend who has a good job and is making 50 to 100 thousand rubles in Moscow,  yet she can't even dream of buying a room, let alone an apartment. But, had she not met me, who knows what she would have done in a couple of years
