One's body does not 'play dumb', it communicates autonomically, without your conscious control. Modifying body language when one is familiar with the local rules is not easy, doing so when one is not familiar is very difficult indeed. Playing dumb does not happen - well, it does, but we call many of those people autistic - it is not normal behaviour.

Andrew, we may be talking about two different things. I would say 90+% of the guys who go over there are clueless to the extreme. I would think it would be rather easy to play that part even if one's eyes give one away as to being on to the GCG (or whatever). Let's face it many RW are so bold, arrogant and full of themselves they can't imagine a Western man could see through their little charade in their own back yard.

From what I have seen, in most cases, guys going over will be much as I was on my first trips to Saint Petersburg, five or six years ago. Awareness of body language would, at that time have made no difference. The women that one meets, who are interested in foreign guys are such a small slice of the general population and so differently motivated that, yes, we are as tender morsels of yoghurt dipped schwarma.

But, if one gets past that stage, and of course many, including posters here, never do - then this is the time when one needs to be able to 'talk body', but it is very hard. In fact, I know that I have never bothered to consciously do so. But, with time, it becomes an unconsciousl thing one does to fit in.

Trying to mask one's body language simply will not happen - one does just seem autistic at worst and socially inept at best. I have seen newcomers here who are obviously trying to maintain their distance and minimise communication, they look so sad, like kids at a party who do not know anyone, do not understand how to play the games and sit in a corner. We rememeber those kids don't we? We remember what happened to them at school? Same same in foreign countries!
