18 years or 17 years and some 363 days.

this is a big age gap.

I suspect you moved too quickly in wanting her to move.  This is a woman with two failed marriages behind her, the last, only a year or so ago, some health issues, a toddler, and an ex involved in the child's life.  You met her about 3 1/2 months ago, I believe?

Given all the above, plus the fact that you, too, have two failed relationships in your past, I think the age may have been the excuse, and perhaps an issue, but I think all the others, combined, is what really sunk the relationship. Timing is probably as much of an issue as anything.

After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

Unfortunately - I suspect this is 100% correct. :'(   :'(  :'(

Trust me it is a bitter pill.

I'm sorry.  It is just one of those things. :(   But, if you learned something from the short time you had together, that's all, in the end, that matters.

A couple weeks ago more on a whim I flew to Kiev.

For more than one year I had via Skype contact with one woman near Moscow, Zulfiya. I invited her to Kiev.

For what it is worth via Love Planet she contacted me. We became more best friends/pen pals than any relationship interest on Skype.

At the same time via Love Planet on very short time frame (less than two weeks) I wrote some younger women and in fact before Z car as I called her I met several of these women. These meetings (8 or so) were a disaster. But via a friend in Kiev Yulia I was introduced to another Julia and met an Evgenia. The woman Julia I met before and also met afterward Z car returned to Moscow by train.

With regards to Z car it came out that she was from a small village in Dagestan and in fact raised as a Muslim. Her father in no uncertain terms did not approve of her traveling to meet me.

Our time together was interesting and while we were comfortable with each other it was like the sister of a best friend than any romantic feelings. In Kiev I felt envious of the happy couples that one would see. Sometimes elderly walking together and sometimes silly and young.

In the end both Z car and I found it easy to be together. I respect her integrity and intelligence, something that is often common to women from the former Soviet Union

For what it is worth, over the New Year Special K visited me in Amsterdam. Health wise she s doing well and was grateful for my support. I am also appreciative of some of the insight gained on RWD.

And from the end of February till last week I was with her in Kiev and Zhytomyr. She remains a wonderful woman. But as a couple we both sensed this was not our joint future. She is now considering joining her brother in Canada (he moved there over 20 years ago) or perhaps trying to re-establish her self in Praag (Prague), where she has lived and worked before.

BdHvA,

Thanks for returning and updating your ventures with FSUW.  I commend your careful, steady, and realistic approach.

So after spending time together, Special K is not compatible.  Neither was Z.  And some others you met were a "disaster."

Do you plan to try again?   These experiences have been valuable lessons, and it should be easier next time provided the FSUW mentality  is not a problem.
