My wife doesn't, her mother doesn't and none of her close friends do. Most of her mother's customers don't smoke either.

Maybe it's just that most "agency girls" do?

Stats that my wife found say that 21% or so of women smoke regularly. One third of women smoke at least occasionally. 

Those same stats say 75% of men smoke!

I am a smoker and witnessed indoor smoking that I could not tolerate.. the night at the theater way more than half the people were in the smoking area during intermission.

Based on my experience, only about 5% (1 out of 20 RW or thereabouts with whom I spent enough time that the habit would have manifested itself).  And she said that she did not smoke!  Nothing on the first day, yet her mouth tasted like an ash tray.  Fourth day she had maybe 10-15.

I think many RW have tried smoking enough to know how to smoke, yet choose not to in front of AM.

I don't get how these RW's, many of whom are so educated, smoke at such a high percentage. This UW I know made a comment to me that most of the girls she knew in Kharkov smoked.

I can't tell you how many women I met who claimed they didn't smoke. Apparently they thought that smoking less than 5-10 cigs a day meant they didn't smoke. I guess it depends on what your definition of smoking is. The only place smokier than many Russian bars is a Las Vegas Casino...

Based on my friends experiences with women's profiles on dating sites, there are way too many women that smoke. Not to say there aren't women who don't smoke but I think the percentages of smokers are much higher than American women in real life if you consider even 1 cigarette a day as smoking.

I don't think I'd believe any statistics I actually read about this. With my own eyes I saw a lot of women who smoked and I always tried to avoid them.

I would say about 70-80%.

Oddly though, neither my wife, mother-in-law, aunt, her sisters or my son's fiance' smoke.

Take your time and be selective, there are some out there and you can find them.

Yes, many do. I have no clue about statistics, but it's obviously a high percentage.  I'm also a smoker but none of the ladies I've dated are but none cared whether I do. "All men smoke" was the common comment. Two of them are ex-smokers.  The cost of cigs there has nearly quadrupled since 2006 but is still dirt cheap compared to here.  My personal favorite Ukrainian cigs are Priluki 12 (strong, full ash tray flavor), and in 2006 those could be had for a buck a carton. Now they're a whopping $4 a carton.  Of course the currency exchange rate fluctuations make them higher and lower from my perspective, but the HRN rate is about 4x difference.  

For me going over there to "smokeland" is a breath of fresh air, pun intended, from all the anal retentia surrounding the habit here. yeah, it's nasty, and it's a killer, and has other ramifications which are far reaching. I've stopped many times, once even for 5 years, but for some reason always had that 'stupid moment' of "one won't hurt me, I won't start back THIS time". Yeah.. famous last words. Oh well, such is death.   :evil:

Apologies, didn't mean to turn this into a "smokers thread".. I just think it's kinda strange that with me being a smoker, that I would meet up with only non smokers in a land where most do smoke.  Maybe it's a sign...

This subject always made me laugh, my observations when I was looking on websites were:

The majority of girls said on profiles that they don't smoke (I would say 90%+), as we all know FSUW can often be creative with certain facts! Every bar, cafe and restaurant I have ever been into in Ukraine and Russia is filled with women smoking. I remember one restaurant in Vladivostok a group of six girls sat down and within 5 minutes all six girls were smoking!
I think we all could guess the percentage but think it would be best to just say "its a very high number"!!
Also I would say 99% always wrote "light, casual drinker", again every FSUW I have ever encountered (wife's friends etc and other girls I have met) can and would regularly drink like a sailor on "pay day weekend"!!

If the lady says she doesn't smoke on her profile, she will probably never smoke in front of you!

You can be fairly sure that she will give up the habit between now and 80 years later.

From my week here in Odessa I would put the figure at 90% or higher.

The girl I met had "no" on her profile and she didn't smoke the first date but the second one she did.
Funny that she didn't really inhale but kept it in her mouth and blew it out.
Can you get the nicotine effects that way?

If you come here as a casual observer, then you will naturally think that 80-100% of them smoke. You're most likely going to clubs, bars, etc. and you will see a lot of them light up. This was my impression when I first arrived as well. But...

To those of us who actually see women in other environments, and who know and see them on a regular basis, this is more the norm.

Do RW smoke more than AW; yes, overall, but not much more has been my observation.

I have also witnessed a noticeable increase in the number of RW who are quitting. If you look back at the norms of AW smokers in the 80's to now, you'll also see a number of them quit when more information about the effects were posted, and the increase of information available to them. Like the internet for instance, which has increased 1000 fold here in the last 5 years.

I have never found it difficult to meet RW who don't smoke. I also don't frequent bars, clubs and the like with the same regularity as I once did, and meet them in office buildings or at social events where alcohol is not the common theme.

Men smoke more here hands down, and the women over 25 see it as aging them faster as they get older. If it starts to affect the way they look, well, that in of itself will be motivation enough for them to quit, as I've heard and witnessed first hand with the 25 and over set.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if the number of women smokers decreases here over the next 10-20 years like it did in the states as more and more women realize the effects, and as more and more information about it is available to the public here. I see a lot of similarities here now to how it was in the states back in the 80's.
