Congratulations Groov.

I can tell you from recent experience that your life wil be upside down soon, and the best thing you can have to cope with it is patience.
Also keep the internet search pages at hand for various panic situations, that often can be stopped by a fast search showing there is nothing out of the ordinary happening.

Regarding nausea, MrsShadow had it throughout both pregnancies. What was even more stunning is that both times her total weight stayed exactly the same, seemingly the pregnancy regulated some extra pounds to keep her stable.

If you would listen to the advice of two experienced doctors (our parents-in-law) the following should be done with immediate effect:
- no smoking
- no drinking alcohol of any kind
- no coffee
- no chocolate
- use less milk products and completely avoid smoked cheese and  pasteurized milk.
- use less to no sugar to avoid pregnancy diabetes

I should admit that MrsShadow did cheat on the coffee and chocolate especally during the second pregnancy, and without any ill effects.

Some more things you might want to know...
The nausea can cause heartburn, and this can literally be felt in the heart area. We have the doctors checkup to prove it.
In the third trimester your wife might experience some chest pains and feel some hard places in her chest. If that happens it is more than likely the milk production starting, do not be worried about other things
During the second trimester things will get better as your wife will be used to the feelings going on. Above that, she will start to feel bubbles in her stomach, the first signs of kicks long before you can feel anything. Hearing the heartbeat on checkups is what the father wil enjoy, as it is a sign of new life being well and doing good.

Enjoy the time together, and during the last trimester plan extra time as she will get "nesting drift" meaning the whole house should be in perfect condition, especially the childrens room.

Remember that children can be born perfectly healthy at any time from 37 weeks onward, and plan accordingly.
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

Sincere thanks to all for all the good wishes and advice.

Our fridge is full of fresh semi-sour pickles, stinky (but cooked) fish, and lots of stuff with ginger.

My wife is already planning how to make space for the baby. I will resist for as long as I'm able, but I'm guessing in a few years the inevitable will happen and we'll be vanquished to the suburbs.

Aloe, last week I found that article about how early nausea may be indicitive of a healthy pregancy and I showed it to my wife. The first few times she was sick and I reminded her of the article, she perked up a little. Third time I did it I received a blank stare in return, however :)

GQ, the pool photo is from Berwang, a village in the Tyrol region of Austria. I've always thought that any place people commonly say is similar to paradise should contain a beach of some sort, but no longer.

Running late to the 'party' - but wanted to be sure to add OUR hearty congratulations to all the others! Both Olya and I are delighted to hear the news - and if your wife needs anything or to call and chat, please have her give Olya a call.

Congrats!

Thank you all:) yeah my birth experience as a first time mom is fantastic i think i was very lucky to have only 6 hours of labour  without any epidural and yes NHS is not bad at all knowing you do not have to actually give money for the services, obviously it is paid via tax, it is for free and they do their job very well!

Congratulations, Jazzy.  I'm shocked you have time to post!  You must have a good sleeper.
After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

Jazzy,

Surprising and wonderful news!  Congratulations!

Only 6 hours of labor.   :clapping:  You surely have an excellent pelvis and a flexible  sacroiliac joint.  Good to have babies when young.

Jazzy does come from the strong line of Kuban cossack women so it should be no surprise that she handled it so well.

Groov,

Hang in there she will get better.  We had to cycle foods as each time she got sick a new "smelling" food had to be found or she wouldn't eat.  Then one day she stopped being sick and the weight finally started piling on.  Only six weeks to go for us...

Hi all,

Just a quick update: my wife and I are doing great, the baby is due at the end of May and we're both at the point where we're tired of waiting.

I don't post a whole lot anymore, I think I was getting too cranky in my old age and, frankly with the arrival of our first child, I'm in uncharted territory and just as clueless as the next.

For Valentine's Day I bought my wife a photo shoot with a good photographer and we had the obligatory photos (me kissing her tummy, holding her from behind, etc.) made in addition to some some solo shots. My wife is the most beautiful woman in the world, even moreso while pregnant:

http://www.kristineryan.com/blog/

I didn't make the cut on the photographer's blog (wonder why? There are a few of me in that red I Dream of Jeannie tutu and I look pretty good) but I'll post a follow-up when we get the copyright.

Regardless of what happens from here on, marrying my wife was one of the smartest things I ever did, even if that list in itself is a short one. I wish everyone here success and happiness regardless of the path you choose to take. At the end of the day, all those questions you see debated here (meeting by agency or tours or friends, wovo vs. wmvm, Russia vs. Ukraine, stigma from locals, etc.) all mean doodley squat. The only thing that matters is your relationship, all else can be safely ignored.

Baby?  You'll need some new skills.  This video should do you well and impress your wife.  Practice, practice.
