Anyway, if you go through the articles in the links below, you will indeed find many references to Tymoshenko's illegal activities, including theft of gas, manipulation of the sugar market, and distribution of hundreds of millions to cronies, going all the way back to the mid 1990's, when she and her husband first began stealing gas (facilitated via United Energy Systems).  This is nothing new, it's been reported in Ukraine's press for over a decade.  The current trial is the third trial I can think of. 

 As I posted, she is wily enough to never sign a document, something she learned after turning over Lazarenko.

I believe that Boe was accusing Goldilocks of stealing billions. IF you look closely at Lazarenko's trial, you'll see where she was involved. The exact amount of money "misappropriated" will never be known but it is estimated in the billion$. What you are missinig is the date. This was when she was a lowly "civil servant," not Prime Minister, circa 2001(?). She was skimming over inflated prices and the money diverted to offshore accounts. Then came Firtash, a friend of Kuchma's and he wanted to get in the game. She was literally kicked out of the scheme in favor of the boys' group. Besides, she did not paid her dues like every other oligarch. In order to steal, oligarchs have to pay (million$) to the capo di tutti capi. Then HE is given the green light to steal. (As an aside, one of Azarov's first statement in the RADA was imploring the MPs (oligarchs) to keep the stealing to 5% or less because the country was in bad shape.)
 
Firtash paid his dues and formed RUE (RusUkrEner) with (later on President) Yushenko's brother and its purpose was to serve as an intermediary. Basically, the oligarchs were auditing how much was being stolen now. With Goldilocks, they had no clue. There is no worse wrath than a woman scorned. Goldilocks did not forget her month in jail. But what really got her goat is how she was kicked out of the stealing venture. Revenge was to eliminate the intermediary, RUE. Why do you think it took Yushenko such a long time to appoint her , the "heroine of the Orange Revolution," PM; TWICE? He knew what she was going to do.
 
The promise of the Orange Revolution went down the drain because the thieves were fighting among each other for gas money.
 
What she is being accused in this trial is for "stealing" carbon credits sold to other nations. And the way she "stole" or abused her power was using (or borrowing) some of the money to pay for social services. The money was "returned" or never left. Remember, this is Ukraine and how they do their accounting. Even some real auditors (not the ones that Yanikonvict bought from Wash DC) confirmed that these $$ from carbon credits are still where they are suppossed to be, in UA National Bank.
 
The real issue of this trial is that Yanukonvict wants to change the gas deal Goldilocks sign with Putin. This guy is so dense that he is easily manipulated by the Donetsk clan (Ahkmetov & Co) into doing this. The irony is that Yanukonvict is not getting the billion Goldilock would have gotten out of a deal like this. The Donetsk clan are the one stealing the country blind. Meanwhile, Yanukonvikt is being thrown to the lions as a sacrificial lamb.

The defense in the trial of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko today pointed out in court that there are discrepancies between the case records being read aloud by Judge Rodion Kireyev and photocopies of the case record given to the defense.

Without taking personal sides, regardless of what one thinks of Mrs. Tymoshenko, I find it to be a sham trial and can understand why so many international governments think likewise.

Billions? That is not in dollars. 1,000,000 Hryvnias = $125,000 USD

This past Saturday, 24 September, Yanukovich was called to Moscow (and I don't use that phrasing lightly) where he met both President Medvedev and Prime Minister Putin at Zavidovo, the presidential country dacha.

This was a very important meeting as it was on the same weekend of the United Russia congress where Medvedev made the announcement that Putin would return to the presidency. To Russia, timing is important on this matter.

Medvedev made a brief statement to the press, saying "I will not deny that there is some concern about our energy issues, but I am confident that given everything we have achieved in the past one and a half years ­­– and we have achieved a great deal: we were able to stabilize economic and trade cooperation and many other issues – I am confident that here too we will be able to approach the situation constructively."

Read between the lines. Who is guilty and who is not doesn't matter at this stage and frankly, the presidents of two neighboring countries signed off on the deal so it really doesn't matter.

If Yanukonvict can't get this sham trial out of the news then he risks finding himself isolated, homeless and countryless at some point. He needs to find an 'out' and unfortunately he's not exactly brain surgeon material and thus has painted himself in a corner without many options.

If he's smart (or gets good advice because he certainly isn't that smart), he'll allow her to be sentenced and then commute the sentence "out of good will and healing for the country, blah blah blah."

As to her not speaking the Ukrainian language, then she is putting on quite a good show at the trials. Her use of Ukrainian in court has ticked off the judge. She has since learning the language made a point of speaking Ukrainian in public venues. http://www.articleum.com/en/4559.html

If you want to judge her ability at Ukrainian I'd suggest a YouTube search and let our Ukrainian speakers judge her speaking ability.

The crowds and support for Tymoshenko are growing larger every day.  Officials have had to make more room for Tymoshenko supporters on the east side of Khershaytk as their is no more room for them on the west side of Khershaytk. 

I have taken several photos of the two support camps on Khershaytk, Yanacrookvich's and Tymoshenko's. The differences between the two are unbelieveable.  I even took a video of the Yanacrookvich's camp when I first arrived in late August, being somewhat of a tall guy was able to put my video camera over the 7 foot covered/protected area that the public cannot easily see in. Got into a bit of a scuffle with Yanacrookvich's goons.  I'll try to play that video on rwd when time permits. The video will take longer than the photos.

Will try to post some of the photos I took tomorrow morning. As the crowds are growing larger for Tymoshenko and getting louder, and our tour is winding down, I'll be spending time there tomorrow in case something good or big breaks out.

Tymoshenko's fortune, which is over a billion dollars, was made through UES.  She made that billion basically, through money laundering and stealing gas, via her connection to Lazarenko.  Lazarenko was convicted by a US court for money laundering, extortion, and wire fraud.  I am certain we won't hear the "political machinations" which resulted in that case.

Tymoshenko is on trial in this case for gas contracts.  I never posted this particular trial is about her theft of the billions she has hidden, much of it offshore.

Crowd members are often paid in Ukraine, so I would not put too much store in demonstrations.

All Tymoshenko's speeches in Ukrainian are from prepared texts.  The last time I saw a live interview which granted, was a little over 2 years ago, she could not answer questions live, unrehearsed, in Ukrainian when put to her.  I will have a look around youtube for something unrehearsed.
