In just the past two years, I have met two guys who had prior convictions in their past preventing their . Over the years, I know of guys I went to school with who were accused of domestic violence crimes. In our society these incidents are in the papers nearly every day, its a popular concept for TV, movies and novels, we publicly register sex-crime offenders and have a fair understanding regarding accessing historical  criminal records from public information that is unknown in the FSU.

 And out of curiosity Olga how many domestic violence situations and convictions have there been in Florida THIS week? You well know this type of official information isn't common in the countries of the FSU to the point that no one even thinks about it. at best, they hope for hearsay and gossip on the local boys but take a chance on those swarmy guys who show up from another city/village/town.

How many of your friends from back home can imagine accessing an individual's criminal records across every region of the country from an internet site, a search of newspaper records or a trip to the courthouse for a records search?

The point isn't the occurrence of domestic violence Olga. It's the recognition of the problem to the point that spouses (usually women) are able to discover the information about their BF's and suitors.

Really folks, don't make it a member vs. member pissing match. Simply ask your wives, GF's and families about the willingness of police to get involved in these common domestic situations, convictions, incarceration and the subsequent ability to find out definitive information about an individual's criminal records in the FSU. I know the answer no matter what is said this thread.

ECOCKS, while we don't have such computer system as in the US, but if you want you can get information about criminal past through law firms or direct application to the government services. Problem is ignorance and mentality.

Big thanks to the feminist movement in US who fight for the right to be protected. I hope we also will have such movement in Russia. But women should be more proactive

I wish they were. God (among others) knows, the crimes against some of them by asshole husbands are often not taken seriously by various societies.

Of course sometimes women abuse/scam/take their husbands under questionable circumstances, but it has by and large been a man's world on these issues.

It's a long-standing disagreement here and elsewhere about the "fairness" of VAWA and IMBRA (and I guess this AWA now) but, in my mind, something is needed for the protection of foreigners inherently unfamiliar with the information and backgrounds of their new spouses/BF's.

It's an imperfect world and hopefully we can evolve towards a better system of protecting both parties in this process.

Seriously though, on the homefront, CDC do in fact keep the count and measure the degree of abuses from both sides of the gender aisle. But even then, the greater flux in these abuses are for the most part, one-sided.

In Canada, men are normally not jailed for domestic violence.  I would hazard a guess there is a man or two of your acquaintance who has committed violence against his wife, and you do not even know it.
