Hello from Minnesota, USA
« on: November 14, 2011, 10:18:24 AM »
Just making the obligatory introduction.

Came to this site to learn more about meeting women abroad.  Learn some of the do's and don'ts.  Used a recommended site freepersonals.ru

Found some great women already from Russia and will be hopefully visiting one in a couple of months.

The advice here has been helpful.

Thanks

A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.

Before traveling to Russia, you should find out the country's customs and norms. Men foreigners must realize that some cultural signals passed between men and Russian women and the expectations may be quite different and not what is intended, unless they want to be "surprised" by the fact that, say, smiling at a Russian woman and being cheerful (which are normally looked upon in the US just as a good manner) may be misinterpreted as a "come-on" by Russian girls :)

Anyway, if you want to be treated with heartfelt respect and courtesy in Russia, act reserved, be pleasant yet overly formal even when women respond by being overly friendly.
P.S.
If you are taking this so seriously that you read all of this, you need to get some sense of humor

Many years ago I actually started to read the manuals for the stuff I buy and have found the information to be very helpful, so I like to do some serious reading when I plan to do something new.  For the overseas dating, it is completely new to me for Russian Women, done some dating in other countries, but I know each country is different.

I have been talking to this one particular lady who is into many of the things that I am into and we are commonly attracted to each other.  We pretty much immediately started talking on video with skype, so I know that she is actually the person in the picture.  For her and I this is our fist time trying this sort of thing.  She started a couple of weeks ago and so did I.

In the past my travels have brought me to many placing including some of the worst neighborhoods around and found my street smarts good enough to avoid any trouble so I am not to concerned with getting into trouble during my travels.

When I go over to visit I was thinking about just taking a couple of weeks to a month so that I could make a whole trip of if.  See the interesting sites and get to know some of the real people from the area.  Plus this would give her and I plenty of time to hang out, without being rushed.

I am also lucky in that I play musical instruments and have friends who will probably know musicians from the area.  With a little luck I might be able to jam and play music with the locals which would be a great way to make new friends in the area.  I have done this in the past in my travels and it has afforded me a perspective on the community that few foreigners see.

I am open to any advice people may have on the subject of dating RW and would be thankful. Hope you all have a great day :)

Thanks for the warning, but I stay way clear of any site that wants money to communicate or join.  The girl I have been talking to was through a free site freepersonals.ru  and we basically started video skype right away so I know who I am talking to.

Don't frighten the man  ;D

Agree!  I say relax and have a good time.

The whole affair  (my friends refer to it as an escapade) is a splendid adventure.  More important than being fine looking women, RW are very interesting in many different ways.

Scams?  I have bounced around RW and UW for 10 years and have never been scammed.  Perhaps I was lucky the first year when I knew so little; nevertheless, the deceptions used by insincere RW seem so obvious.  IMO it takes three factors to be scammed: 1) acute loneliness to allow the fantasy to form, 2) stupidity to believe in hype and fantasies, and 3)  intimidated by women to the degree of finding it impossible to say "No."

My advice: don't travel to Russia in January. However, a man from Minnesota should be comfortable wearing a fur hat and a warm fur coat.

People mostly stay home when it's very cold. This plan won't be as successful as in May-September:

Disagree.  Meeting RW is good any time of the year.

Years ago we wrote a thread about winter travel.  I gave my comments about such when it was -27C.   The photos seem to have disappeared.

I checked the last winter temperatures in Krasnoyarsk where he is heading.
December 11, 2010 -37C
December 21, 2010 -38C

For me, it's a little bit cool.

You are probably correct.  I have never experienced such extremes.  -27C was too much.  And where he is headed is 10 degrees colder.  Brrrrr!

I also met my UW on freepersonals.ru. I wish you the best of luck. I recommend reading as much here as time allows. There is a lot of good information and points of view. Not everyone one has the points of view so pick what works for you.

Ouch! That is cold. Coldest I have been in the FSU in was about minus 20. And that was more than enough. Minus 37 is a brutal temperature to endure.

the coldest I remember was when I was a kid living in minnesota -48 F no wind chill.  The state basically shut down for the day and most people stayed inside.

But today you can even camp in this kind of weather, they make sleeping bags down to -60 F, but they cost about $1,000 each.  I prefer a heated cabin when it gets that cold though, much better :)

Cell phone battery should work down to about -40C, so that is close.  My camcorder battery would not power on at the top of Kazprowy in Poland in January.  Worked just fine on return to the bottom of the mountain.
