You can say that again, Jason. You certainly are of a different breed. But not to burst your bubble here, Russians do it without a working parachute...

The following comment (2nd) is pretty hysterical. "I hope he's not doing it just to get laid!"   :P

Holy HELL  OUCH!

and  LMAO   just to get laid  that's awesome.

I hope he didn't do it just to get a ride on a chopper!

I wonder how long he had to wait for assistance?
I know the FSU is not famous for thier helivac airlifts to hurry and put you back together again. :)
I imagine the camera guy  oy
having to climb back down,  oy oy oy oy

I have bit it before, but never anything like that.

On a more lighthearted note:

Don't buy ACME parachutes!

If he had been in the USA, he would sue the utility company and win?

Anywhere else, they would say: well,  that was really stupid, so you climbed up a tower and jumped off, how are you going to pay for your rescue?

Impressive!  :clapping: to Jason!

Good training for the wilder adventure of living with a RW.    :D

Wilder?   ::)

Did you mean that living with RW is like experiencing the sensation of being in endless freefall ...
that gives you an incredible sense of accomplishment ?!  :)
If you want to keep your expressions convergent, never allow them a single degree of freedom.

IINM AJ, the storyline behind this was that, it took them 45 minutes to get up that high because apparently the tower was some from of electrical towers like we see here on open plains. The guy's life was in peril even before he got to the top. LOL.

400 feet at terminal velocity, man! I'm sure you've had those moments when your own mortality is at stake and images of your entire life flashes by you in one-nano second flat. I can't help but wonder what were the last thoughts in this guy's mind during that last 2 seconds before we went ballistic and became a watermelon experiment. White powder Ground-Zero, man.

I'm not sure what's worst, that or getting wiped out on Maverick's 100 footers..

It's those moments where you escaped and cheated death and realized you just received a free pass back to life that you can't help but get into hysterics with your buddies as though it's the funniest thing you all had ever seen. LOL.

I smile thinking these guys must be having a helluva Vodka moments together these days, you know.

No, the kind of freefall that ends with a rather big SPLAT!  If, of course, you're in freefall TOGETHER, that's a whole different ball game!

Good question Jumper.
Without knowing his level of experience it's Impossible to say for sure.

If you aren’t head up and stable on launch you are either very high, very good or very worried.  :)

How do you say
"Well, I’ll step off and do a 2 second delay, pitch my pilot chute and then wait 6 to 8 weeks for opening."
in Russian?

That is very amazing. still, I am glad we can laugh with him and he is still here to jump another day.

...

Unfortunately that happened for real to a New Zealand base jumper in Switzerland on Saturday, as Alan McCandlish hit a ridge immediately after jumping and was deflected into another.  In real life he was a skydiving instructor with over 4,000 jumps to his credit.

I don't know if you knew him, Jason, but I suppose the cliche will come out that "he died doing what he loved."  R.I.P.

GODSPEED

Yes AnotherKiwi I got a call about this Sunday.
I saw him in Norway, and while I did not know him well, I knew he was a man who pushed the limits. I knew he was headed to Kandersteg as part of the trip.

Alan was one of the most influential figures in wing suit flying and added a whole new dimension to the sport.
He was much more than a skydiving instructor.
He was a wingsuit pilot and was like an F-15 jet and loved proximity flying. ( scratching your knuckles on the granite cliffs as you speed by at 100mph )

the continuation ...

So last time ....

I was just coming out of the water onto the shore, soaking wet, with chute in tow and loosing daylight as that was the last jump of the day.  Needless to say, I again froze my little bottox off.
So Day 3 was a travel day. So we made our way to the next country, and IMO the most dangerous and scary place to jump.

Sweden.

Yes i know it's misspelled with an extra e.  :)
My suit is white and black but dirty from climbing the muddy exit point.

Had 2 days of as many jumps as we could handle.
then did some proximity flying,  I touched the rocks :)  so Did my shadow.

Spmeone said to me:
" If the people look like ants, Pull. If the ants look like people , don't bother. "

I understand that BC.

I thank you for watching what you did :)

I hope you can watch videos of the 2012 Olympic Games because I plan to have hours and hours of footage when I return home from London. I was at the 2008 games in Beijing China.  If London is going to host the games anywhere close to the quality job of the Chinese, they have their hands full. I loved the Olympic Games as a kid i dreamed of someday being in the Olympic games competing against Russian athletes. Being at the games is a dream come true as you can go from event -event all day long and watch the worlds best competing for GOLD.

Jason,

you do have a distinct advantage....

When a woman tells you to 'Go jump off a cliff' after a pickup line gone bad, you can parry with  'Ok! You wanna watch?'

Funny you should bring that up. I had just such an experience the other night.  I started a conversation  with a beautiful woman (way out of my league? hmm maybe :) ) while waiting at the tire centre for installation of new tires. I commented on her hairstyle and asked a few things about her, each time she would roll her eyes at me
this made me want to run for the cliffs and jump for my life!

Jason,

Was wondering... how in the world does someone train for these kinds of stunts?... or is there just someone at the bottom with a shovel when a newbie jumps for the first time?

Jason,

Was wondering... how in the world does someone train for these kinds of stunts?... or is there just someone at the bottom with a shovel when a newbie jumps for the first time?

No, there are no newbies ever.
It is not a casual weekend activity.
To even consider a BASE jump you must be an accomplished skydiver. With thousands of hours of practice
and experience. you must have proof of 300+ skydives from an air plane and have 30 previous training courses in Wingsuit, proximity, and tracking.  Practice landings, you must be able to land and hit your spot standing up a minimum of 100 times.  All the people you see in the videos are professionals and they are the best of the best of the best.
This is so dangerous, that even on a perfect day, if anything goes wrong, or  if you make a mistake, you are dead. You are required to have a written will and testament, a DNR (if applicable) and specific instructions how to proceed if you are killed.
An organ donor's card, and you must be trained in advanced CPR,  and it helps if you have EMT training.
It's no game, The costs are huge and there is a 99% chance every time you jump, that you will die. There are only 2000 active base jumpers in the entire world.
For every base jump, there area hundred sky dives done before that jump.
There is an official list of base jumpers, and you do not want to be added to this list.

Do not ever base jump.
plain and simple.

Jason,

Sorry I did not really answer your question very positively.

If you wan't to have some fun  and some similar experiences and you are newB(C), no need to give up. There are a lot of things one can do with no training, practice, or tons of money...

Where you live will havea lot to do with what is available to you regularly. So I would start simple and move up to bigger sports if you find you like the high.

1. RollerCoasters.

When is the last time you rode a roller coaster? when you were a kid? A lot has changed since then. .  they are bigger , faster, and more intense.  Plus there is probabbly one near you.

2. Indoor Flying

Ok so you want to fly, but don't really wan't the risk of being killed?  Indoor Flying is the ultimate place to fly. You can fly the first day and it's totally safe and Warm. This is where you can get your free fall flying training time in without the plane ride.

3. Air Tours.
Seaplanes and helicopter rides are some of the pre- requirements and are a fun way to get into the mood and see some awesome scenery too.

helicopter is my favourite.  Why not learn to be a pilot too?

4. Paragliding.

This can be quite dangerous so make sure you go with a club or a company that will take you on rides and jump tandem.

5. Skydiving.

Of course everyone knows what skydiving is.  Have you ever tried it?  Why not? You don't know what you are missing. Is it on your bucket list?
I was on this guys and he did it :) twice that day.

I do not advocate doing anything dangerous, illegal, or any type of stunt without the proper training and instruction. I do not want anyone to get hurt by being stupid and doing something crazy.  Know your limits, and protect yourself from Injuries by not doing something that is unfamiliar or uncomfortable  to the extreme degree. I do advocate having FUN and being HAPPY and FREE and most of all BE SAFE.
It's better to not do something that is too dangerous and live another day, than to make a mistake and  end up in the hospital or even worse.

Anyone else have any activities they like to do for the thrill of the ride?

So this is the video from the last 2 days  spent in Europe .
This is my favourite Day. :)  Wing-suit day. or as some call it , flying squirrel day.
proximinity flying, tracking and some showing off :)
I wear the Black and white wingsuit and do some flying up side down, high 5s , and racing a jumper with his canopy already open, and keeping a slow horizontal line.
Yea I almost touched the trees and was scared to hell that I would crash .

As long as you never touch your shadow
