RWG to RWD transfomattion
« on: May 20, 2012, 09:48:22 AM »
I thought that RWD was created by members from RWG who were not happy with the way/managment/advertisement or something was going with RWG.  I noticed that Dan is the ADMIN for RWD but I thought Dan was also the major player in RWG.
Can someone give me a short summary on the transformation from RWG to RWD.
Just trying to get caught up on things.

There is much information about this. I would start here
http://www.russianwomendiscussion.com/index.php?topic=11882.msg233648#msg233648

and here

http://www.russianwomendiscussion.com/index.php?topic=2170.0

hmm
but I see you are a part of that thread above from 2006.

You can search for an exchange between Dan and Manny where they basically call a truce and agree to tolerate each other. I wonder what is it that you seek exactly?

David,

Taking a bit of liberty with your request, I will go back a bit further to better describe the history:

* First online discussion forum was Planet-Love beginning in 1998. Planet-Love's first online appearance was in late 1998 and followed an earlier site (not a discussion forum site) founded by the same person, GoodWife.com in 1997.

* RWGuide was founded by Spencer and made its first internet appearance nearly 2 years later than Planet-Love in mid-2000. The obvious difference was that RWG focused exclusively on the Former Soviet Union whereas P-L has segregated sections for those interested in the Asia geographies, Latin American geographies, and the FSU countries.

* RussianMeetingPlace came along about 3 years after RWGuide in 2003 and RussianWomenDiscussion (RWD) in its earliest form came along a year later in 2004.

* Part of the motivation to create RWD was that P-L was focused on other geographies and the occasional inter-forum squabbles that popped up become tiresome. Also, the FSU portion of P-L was the most active and there seemed to be some opportunities to build on that activity level.

* In terms of my personal activity, I was active at P-L from the beginning, but never participated at RWG when it was strong. I *have* made rare appearances at other sites - almost always to address some malcontent who was booted from RWD and took their bitching to another site. Anyway, I have essentially never participated at RWG.

* Upon marriage to Olya in 2001 (yes, more than 11 years now), she and I started RWD and run the site. At one point a while back the original founder of GoodWife.com and Planet-Love.com turned those sites over to us as well - so we have been running them for a number of years now.

* In the time RWD has been operational we have been involved in many useful projects for people involved in this pursuit. Among them are:

* The RWDpedia
* The Agency Code of Ethics
* The ScamCard
* The Agency Card
* The Men's Code of Conduct
* The RWD E-Book - Men of the West/Women From the East
* The Survey of Cross-Cultural Marriage and Divorce
* And while it is now dated, there is The GoodWife Report on IMB Affiliate Programs (offline for the moment).

There is more, but this should suffice to answer your question.

Welcome back.

- Dan

I almost forgot the IMBRA Compliance Kit - copy attached.

It needs to be updated with some changes suggested by Tahirih Justice Center - as well as the latest re-authorization of the legislation - though much/most of it remains intact as written.

Does anyone here (while we are on the topic) remember a guy called Beau Brummel who ran a mailing list back in the early days, like 1996 or so? He helped a women in SPB get a web site, "Introductions by Irina" started.  He married and then divorced a RW, if I remember correctly...

There was a 'List Serve' hosted on some St. Johns servers that came to be known as the "St. Johns List." It remains alive today hosted at ICORS.ORG and still run by Lester - the list is called RUSSIAN-WOMEN-LIST - though the traffic levels are a small fraction of what they once were. Lester also has a LATIN-WOMEN-LIST at the same ICORS.ORG and their traffic levels are quite slow.

Not sure if this is the "mailing list" you were thinking of - but it is another piece of the older MOB 'story' that is still around . . . sort of.

Thanks Dan for the info.
I couldn't remember Spencers name but yes, he was the person behind RWG but for some reason, I do remember yours associated with RWG, but maybe I was thinking RWD.
I do remember the discussions of PL and Goodwife although I never participated and just stuck with RWG.
I do remember that there was an issue with Manny and I am glad there was a truce.  He has a lot to contribute and him being here makes this place that much stronger.
Sorry folks for the regression here.

Just to fill in another gap, it is ruadventures.com that was started by DonAz and Jooky and they organised the final exodus from the old RWG and one or two of the mods came over too.

As RWG died, both RWD and RUA gained members from it.

Shortly after, DonAz and Jooky departed RUA and the site passed to me.

As noted above, Dan and I have had our differences over the years and I am pleased to say that is all behind us now. I still snoop around here a little and Dan has been known to make the odd appearance on RUA as well.

Hi David1963.

I remember you at RWG.  I joined RWG in 2002 after my first trip and posted under the name "bucky."  Spencer asked me to be a moderator and I served that role until one day I woke up and found that RWG had been sold.  New moderators were named and I could not even login to RWG under my old name.   No one seemed interested in my login problem.

That was enough, so I never returned to RWG.  I learned from others that RWG deteriorated rapidly as one would expect.

I avoided all forums for a long time, and then started posting at RWD in June 2006 under the name Gator.   I liked the RWD people so I stayed.   Dan is an owner whose first concern is the integrity of the forum.   I admire that.

Is Ronin's site still working (speaking of old RWGers transforming unto a board of their own. I believe he was one of the original RWG moderator)? I believe it was called RWPrimer?
